OK.....

The firmware is whats currently in your player, thats the graphics and the text strings that your player is using. For example, there is an animation (probably) when you start your player up, and this is about 14 images loaded into the firmware, you can change these by editing the firmware (extracting yours with a tool and editing with an extra program, check the knowledge base)

Generally there are not upgrades for individual players and it is not wise to do it, because you may result in a dead player or compatibility issues. Some may want to try to get extra games on their player, but again you may run into problems. The upgrade tool that came with the player needs to be used to upload the modified firmware (if you have changed startup logos on your player etc)

Check the knowledge base link to the left to show you how to back it up visually.

lol well snap you there, 10GB HDD and 56kbps internet.

Although its an MP4 player, it does not play MP4's....

You will need to use the "MP3 utilities 3.68" or something like that in the download section, I suggest you get a download accelerator (I use star downloader) to get the best speed for your download, you will have to wait for the utilities to download, I think its about 10MB.

As for storing them I suggest you do like me:

Create a music folder, pictures folder and videos folder in the root (e.g H:\)

put the respective file formats in those folders (AMV format in videos) and change the "local folder" (usually it auto-detects the format and moves to that folder) in the options.

You can download some sample AMV's here (I tried one and it didnt work on my player though, it was black eyed peas - pump it, sound garbled and format error.

Or you an check a post I will now be putting into the "How to" section on converting a DVD to it
