Default 2GB Nano clone only holds 109mb!

For some reason, my nano clone is only holding 109mb of data. If I try to upload any more files an error pops up (incorrect parameter).

I have not touched the firmware. I noticed this before I formatted it in windows XP. I tried reformatting Fat and Fat32 but it did not help.

I'm thinking maybe a firmware upgrade could resolve it, but im hesitant to try it as the mp4 player does not show a model number and theres a good chance I could install the wrong firmware.

I have tried plugging it in different usb ports, different computers, but the capacity is still capped at 109mb. My coworker has the same exact one he bought from the same place, same time, except his is black, and his does hold 2gb.

Other than the small capacity the player seems to have all it's functions working fine.

The driver CD that came with the player seems to be defective and no computers that I put it in was able to read it.

Any suggestions?

umm.. Hepnotic..im sorry to break this to you but you got a Fake 2GB mp4 Player. Most of the sellers on eBay (usually from HongKong) sell you a player saying its 2GB and it will show up on the screen as having 2GB worth of space but in reality it will only have 128MB (like you have got) or 256MB. I think you have got a Fake 128MB chip meaning you will only be able to store 109MB worth of data on the player and not 2GB because the chip itself isnt 2GB but only 256. Most of the sellers do this so that they can sell the players at a lower cost than other sellers (who do sell originals) and at the same time scam the buyer into getting something that they dont know about..also they make huge profits off of these kinds of deals. Sorry to break it to you, but anyone else got any suggestions?

I suspected the same thing, but my coworker bought these two players at the same time, same place, same model, only his is black the other is white, and his black one is holding 2gb of data, and the white one wont! isnt that unusual?

I think we're going to upgrade the firmware on the white one.

well it just depends. The black one could have a 2GB chip inside and the white one could have a 128MB Chip inside.. it just depends how much each player can store based on what is installed inside.

Sorry to hear that, some of the MP4 player manufacturers are making really bad MP4 players, mainly the ipod nano clones, they are basically formatting 256/512mb memory to look like they hold more. If you try to format the player, you will end up with the actual amount of memory.

There is nothing you can do to fix the player all you can do is try and get a new one from the person you bought it from (if possible).

Hepnotic

Unfort, what you've read from post from other members is pretty much true.

Reading from your post, I would say you've got a hacked player too. What you can do is open it up and check the chip instead and see if you can track it down. However, it's abit long winded. The easiest way is to format your player. Then check how much storage is displaying in Windows. Try uploading as much as you can to the player. Some 'hacks' are good enough to let you upload that much, however, it WON'T play it though.....

Unfort, try to get a replacement, but if you bought it on holiday, it might be abit tricky.
