Should I format the player right when I get it?
Just wondering to check on the issue of memory when I get it...should I format it first thing? Is it as simple as plug it in, windows detects it...right click - format? I dont want to format over the firmware..just the drive space...
I read a few posts saying to format in fat 16 not 32? Any insight? I searched but no luck w/ what I was looking for. Or should I try to copy songs on it and test it, or just format it...What is recommended? Thanks! |
Well I extracted the Firmware and then I formatted it, but formatting doesn't delete your Firmware. I formatted in FAT32 and it works perfectly (don't know which data system it was before formatting; go to expolorer, right click mp4 player> properties and then you see the file system). You can format it with windows (I did) like your format a hard drive.
Have fun. |
Re: Should I format the player right when I get it?
Hey, Ok cool. I think your the guy who made the iPod theme I'm going to try and use :) I dont like the look of soe of the menu's i've seen on it, so I plan on redoing it with yours, or editing it to make it work...
So when I get it, im going to backup firmware first of all, as I've read to make sure and do that...I already have all the stuff ready, just waiting on the unit! |
Re: Should I format the player right when I get it?
If you backup your firmware, you should check, what kind of FAT-drivers are found on the firmware. The backup-program will list all drivers / files during/after backup.
If there is no fat32 entry, formatting with FAT32 can damage your player! I remember, I have seen a big warning in some manual, formatting the player with FAT32 instead of FAT16. I for myself have sucessfull formatted my player with FAT32 (NANO Clone 2GB) and it is running perfectly! |
