Default Disk Error! Basically everything is gone

Hey guys!

Its been a while since I last posted. Due to school and projects there was really no time to care much about music and such. But now that summer is in, Its time to start partying!

But before we can do that, We must help me fix my nano look a like.

First heres the problem.

I was charging my player for a few days and then one day when I went to turn it on, The lyrics suddenly changed... to chinese.. so I decided to turn it off and thought everything would be alright.. but this of course did not solve my problem... I press M on my player to go to music.. Disk error appears!
I go to Amv, Disk Error! Etc. Basically everything Is gone. All my music, all my videos and photos... and this happended all so suddenly.. What is the cause of this? Is it the need to upgrade my firmware??

Also What is Firmware?

Many thanks to all the admins and mods for the time to help us on our problems and I hope everyone has a great summer. But Please help me

Duff, Your firmware is like the operating system of your PC. But do not try upgrading it yet.
First I if you do not already have a one I suggest you backup your firmware using s1fwx, there is a guide in the knowledge base on how to do this.
Then with your player connected to your PC right click on it in Explorer and select Properties then the Tools Tab. Press the Check Now button in the Error-checking section. Select both options in the next window and scan your player for errors. this could take a while. Then format the player either with the MP3 Disk Tool or by right clicking in Explorer and selecting format. Use the FAT file system.

Let me know if this fixes the problem.

Hi sorry it took so long to reply, But One question before I back up my firmware.

When I bought my mp4, It came with 3 months Warrently. Now the Warrently Is not yet over. Should I try backing up my firmware/upgrading it or should I Go back to the store and try and let them fix it? Im afarid If i try and mess up the firmware, They wont fix it and I'll have a dead player on my hands. Suggestions Please? Thanks

Duff

If it's still in warranty, safest bet is to take it in for them to look at the issue! You might as well if you have the warranty.

When you get it, test it at the shop as well to make sure it's fully working before you leave otherwise you might get the same problem. Also test the WALL CHARGER as well if you can.

While you're at the shop, get them to FORMAT the player and then check that the size of the disk is still the same as advertised for that player (incase you get a 'hacked' player).
