Here is how the browse function for folders works in the MP4 player. We can manipulate it to browse the songs, since there is no function to browse to the songs we want. Although if you want a list of all the songs in the folder that you have browsed to, then you need to select the "Delete" command while the song is stopped. You cannot see a complete list of all the songs in the device if the songs are stored in various folders.
(This one is in version 3.5.35.)

Note:
Though doing this is not necessary, but to make the best use of this function, make 26 folders A through Z, and put the songs (most probably artiste wise) in each folder. In the menu-option "Local Folders" talked about below, only the folders with the MP3s or WMAs are shown. Also, the folders that have any sub-folders are also shown (like a user called "scrub50187" reported here), among the folders with the songs in them. So it is not advisable to make an empty sub-folder inside a blank folder unless you want to place the songs one inside the other sub-folders, since these song-less folders would clutter the list, misguiding us in selection of folders with songs.
This is a one time effort, after which all you would need to do is just place the new songs in their right folders! (But back up on your HD for good!)

1. 'Initialize' the "Music" or song player in your iPod.

2. Press the M for menu button to go to the menu (and the player may be stopped right now for availability of all the options in the menu needed here).

3. Now go to the Repeat section and press M to select it. The 7 options are now visible (2 on next page) (wrongly titled "Tempo Rate" when accessed from here, but rightly titled "Repeat" when accessed while the song playing).

4. Select the 5th option "Repeat All", by bringing the highlight to that option. No need to press the M button. You can exit by pressing the center play-button (>||) also.

Note: After highlighting, pressing the centre play-pause button "selects" that option and exits. While if you just browse to an option highlighting it, and leave for a few seconds, then the screen exits automatically, and that option is NOT selected... just in case someone does not know.

5. Now again go to the menu by pressing M. Go to the "Local Folders" option and press M, now you can see all the folders with the MP3s. You may or may not highlight any folder you want, that has any MP3s in it, but just press the play-button to exit. You have to do this once.

Note: The player still DOES NOT show the songs within a highlighted folder (like 001/005 displayed on top, if that folder has five songs). Instead it shows the folder that was either already there, or that is the first one either alphabetically, or perhaps date wise, that has any songs.

6. Repeat step 5 for folder selection from now onwards.

Note:
a) The next song is played automatically after the completion of the last song in the current folder with "Repeat All" selected.

b) If you want the current folder to be repeated, then go to the Repeat menu, select "Folder" or "Repeat Folder" (don't know why there are two commands for the same function). You don't get directed to the first folder till you try to browse to another folder. But if you want to browse to a folder, then do not forget in your hurry to FIRST select the "Repeat All", THEN go for browsing to that folder, or you will be directed to the first folder, and you would need to repeat the steps, which shall take some time.

c) If you have a folder, that does NOT have any songs, but has a SUB-folder, then on selecting it, you are directed to the first folder with the songs in it.

If you select any other option other than "Repeat All", in the Repeat section, then you lose the browsing function.

hope this helps
