USB Car Charger for Nano-Clone - a Curious Issue

Hi,

I bought a "Car Charger/FM Transmitter" for my 1 GB Nano-Clone as below:-

http://www.msun.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fm_charger.jpg

The odd thing is that it seems not to be able to charge the battery even though there is 5V as measured at the USB connecting lead.

Using the same USB lead that came with the player, it charges just fine via USB port on a laptop (even if the laptop is powered off).

The main evidence of charging is the battery indicator on the LCD display so my question is why no such charging indication when the 5V is presented from the car charger.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Cheers from Mike

its hard to say. I just got a unit a few days ago, and I cant even get mine to charge. I think its a matter of crappy quality. If I could do it over I dont think I would of even got a nano clone...grrrrr.

I would think it would charge for you, but then again its hard to tell. Mine will only charge a little if I plug the unit in the wall with the unit switched to off. Otherwise it does nothing.

Goodluck.

Just as a followup, I fully discharged the player battery and tried the car charger and found the player to be charging OK. So it seems to be just a case of charging without any indication on the LCD unlike when charging via a Laptop PC.

msun, Interesting, what happens when you plug the charger in, does it go to the connection screen then back to menu?

Tadad1, No, it does not go to the connection screen and then back to the menu; it just stays "as is". That aspect is actually more convenient I guess.

The behaviour must be someting to do with whether the data lines on the USB port is held high or low or something similar. When connecting to the laptop, the connection screen DOES display even when the laptop is powered off.

msun, the reason i ask is that my daughter has an iPod shuffle which has a natty little USB attachment that you can put 2 AAA batteries in and it will charge her ipod. I tried it on my nano clone and when connected it went to the connection screen then back to menu and I thought it just was not working. I would be great if you could recharge from a couple of AAA batteries if you were out and about.
