Some questions for you:

1. Have you ever been able to charge your player through the USB? Or is this a recent problem that has only started happening?

2. What if you tried the wall charger?

3. What happens if you try plugging your MPx player into the USB port of ANOTHER computer? What happens? Same problem with unknown device?

4. What operating system are you using? If it's Windows 98, then you will need drivers for it.

Look forward to your answers.

There isn't any software available that will charge your player. It should charge automatically when plugged into the USB port of your computer.

You need to try to get a hold of another computer to test it to make sure it's not your computer. Do you have a friend with a computer you can test it on? Maybe a computer at work or at school?

Definately try it on another computer for a start.

Also, it could be a faulty USB cable or USB connector in your player. You will need to really test it to get further action as this isn't a definate answer.

Do you have a USB cable from a digital camera or some other device that you can also plug into your MPx player to test whether it's a problem with the USB cable?

If you are getting "unknown device" on another computer, then it could well be a problem with either the USB cable or the USB connector on your player.

Can you get a hold of another USB cable?

There's been a few instances where people are having problems with connecting the players to their computer and it turned out to be a faulty USB cable!
