Can't play more than one AMV file saved on player

Hi

I have an MP4 player (the ipod nano look-a-like one) and I can't seem to play more than one video stored on the player. The AMV files play on my PC witht he AMV player, I can copy the AMV files to the player, but can only play one file on the player. When I try to play any of the others I get a "Format Error" message. I deleted the file that was playing and copied some other files and once again it would play only one file (although this time it was a different one).

Any ideas?

Some questions and things to try:

1. Try deleting everything on your player first. Then upload two-three AMV files. Then try playing it on your player. Does it play? This will give you an idea whether it's a disk space error issue.

2. Try FORMATTING your player. Either through Windows or using the "MP3 Player Disk Tool" provided as part of the "MP3 Player Utilities" install. This is in case there are any errors.

3. Try also scanning your player's drive for any disk errors and repairing them if you can. Again, in case of any disk errors.

Try those and let me know what the result is.

Thanks Binh. The first option worked. Any idea why I had this problem? The files copied to the player so that means there was space on the player.

Another thing. Right now I can play only about 63 mp3 files. If I store more than that, the files copied last don't play. The moment I try to play any of those files the player shuts off and restarts. Once again there is space on the player. If I check the properties of the drive it shows that it has approx. half the player empty.

A small tip that you can share with other MP4/MP3 player users. In case you find that your player restarts to moment you try to play some MP3 files and you don't know which are those files, try this. Connect your player to your PC. Open up the folder that contains the files and select detailed view. Right click the heading bar and ensure that "Duration" is ticked. The duration of each song will now be displayed. If the duration is not displayed for any song, that song will not play on your player.

mdpais, The symptoms you are discribing (unable to play files, player restarts) can sometimes be an indication that your memory chip is much smaller than your player or windows shows. Some manufacturers will by a small chip and apply a hack that makes the chip read as a much larger chip. This way they can sell 128MB chip player as a 2GB player. The reason the files do not play is because they do not really exist. If you copy them back to your PC they will no longer play. If this is the case with your player there is no fix. Formatting the player will generally remove the hack and the true size will be revealed.

i think urs is a hacked player. i had the same problem(s) too and it turned out to be a hacked player. anyways where did u buy it?

That makes sense however I did try formatting the player and it still showed almost 512 MB disk capacity. I've not yet tried copying the files back to the computer and playing them. Will do that next.

I agree, it does sound like a hacked player.
Try a format and see what disk space shows up afterwards.

The player still shows 496 MB after formatting but the partition tab allows you to go to a maximum of 239 MB. Guess I've been duped.

What is the supposed size of your player that you original bought it for?

Maximum partition should be like that so you can have two partitions. You can't make the partition 100% of the disk as then there'll be no point in partitioning it

My player is supposed to be 512MB. It has 2 partitions. One of them is 1MB and when I try to view that partition it says that it is not formatted and whether I want to format it. I clicked as I assumed this partition might contain the software, etc.

I've only formatted the other partition so far. Would you recommend that I try formatting the 1MB partition as well?
