Default Finding a compatible firmware

I am rather new to this so please be patient with me. I have checked every firmware that I could find on different sites to try to change or upgrade mine and none of them will work. I was able to get a 3.5.37 firmware from the 1.5 theme pack to load and display however the screen was all washed out and all of the pictures and text were reversed (mirrored). All other versions that I have tried only bring me to a black screen however when connected to the usb it still shows the drive. When I had the 3.5.37 loaded I did notice that I now had games and phone book and both actually worked however with my current version 3.5.35 it won't show either. This makes it rather difficult to change the appearance so I can use one of the ipod clone themes because things don't really work in order anymore. In addition to all of this I have also tried editing my startup and shutdown acreens and the 128x128 pictures have to be split in half and two pictures are needed to create one. If anyone has insight to this I would be so grateful. Any information you need from me about version, type of player, etc. I will be more than happy to provide.

kwood129, There are so many different versions of 3.5.35 and 3.5.37 firmware that it is impossible to recommend any single one that will work for you. If you have tried all you can find with no luck then the only thing I can suggest is you edit the images you want or create your own. A lot of the themes contain the original PSD files which will allow you to make changes in Photoshop. Otherwise you may have to stay with the version you have.

I know that everyone has said that flashing your firmware won't give you any extra features. When I was able to get the 3.37 firmware loaded even though the screen was faded out and the text was mirrored I was able to see the phonebook app and the games which seemed to play. I assume that these features were always there but turned off by the manufacturer. I was now wondering if anyone knows how to keep the screen from looking so washed out and possibly reversing the screen so it doesn't look like you are looking in a mirror? If I could overcome these two issues I would have a 3.37 firmware that would actually work on my player.

kwood129, You can reset the brightness setting in your firmware with programs such as Waterlily and Firmwar Modify both of which can be downloaded from the Downloads>Tools section. The image layout flipped etc is not some thing you can fix. You could extract all the images with s1res and flip them then relaod them but then all image positioning and text would be screwed up.
If you want to risk it you could try other versions of 3.5.37 but you will most likely kill your player at some stage.

I did finally find a version of 3.5.37 that worked and it did unlock my games menu which of course consisted of tetris. This also got me away from the one thing that I hated about my firmware....on my old firmware you had to split your bmps in half for the opening and shutdown screens. This has made it a little more easy to work with. I have also had my fair share of instances in my search where I have had to short my flash memory and format before i could do anything else. I love this forum because if it weren't for here I would have never been able to know which direction to even start. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

kwood129, It can be a long and frustrating process traking down the right firmware. Good nes that your player is up and running again and even better if the firmware you found is an improvement on your original.
