Received my return for defective unit. Gave me 2gb vs1gb!

Quick rundown...ordered a 1gb for my girlfriend, and it wouldnt charge, sent it back, figured i wanted another unit for me, so I ordered a 2nd 1gb unit for me. So he would ship me the fixed/replaced unit and another 1gb.

So I was suppose to get 2 1gb units. Well he sent me a 1gb and a 2gb unit. I dont know if he messed up, or it was for the hassle maybe?

I didnt mention it to him yet, although I am sure I will be honest and tell him. Only thing is, the original one wouldnt charge because the unit had a bad battery I believe.

Well this time the cord wont charge it properly, the usb icon doesnt show up, it shows up for like 1/10 of a second then goes away! WTF, luckily having 2 units, I tested the other cord, and it works fine, and the usb icon shows up...but the units are suppose to be used at 2 different houses, so not sure how to work that out. One seems to fit in the unit real good, the other seems loose...

If I had it to do over, i would of just gotten a real nano for my girlfriend lol.

Now that I have the unit back, I can start working on the skin layout this weekend again! yay!

I suggest, since you only have one cable for two players, give the cable to your girlfriend. That way, you'll have an excuse to come over and visit her all the time! ;)

The skins and themes provided on this site by our members are darn good!!! The iPod theme makes it look almost like an iPod!

Though you got a 2GB player, best to format it (using the MP3 Disk Tool as part of the MP3 Utilities install) to confirm that it is a true 2GB player (as it might have been hacked).

Try taking your MPx player into a phone shop or electronics shop and see if you can get a USB cable that fits it. Or you can return the cable and ask for a replacement, though I'm not sure how much of a hassel and cost that is, just for a USB cable...........

haha...she comes to my place more, so we can work that out for now, but we'll move in together soon..

The skins I meant, was referring to the custom outter skin/label/sticker setup I was working on. The ones you print your own designs and stuck on the player with computer paper!

I started to make them, but when I had to return my unit I couldnt test it for fitment, so I will get that going again!

Yea, I thought about formatting it. I think I read on here you can just do the windows format with a right click of the drive in my computer, then format it fat, not fat32 right?

Rocker81,
I have all my players running fine on fat32 it does not seen to be such an issue with newer players. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal despite the USB cord. Look forward to seeing more on your skins soon.

Hey! Weird thing is, the cord worked once I took it home. Must of been an issue w/ the things at work, because it works fine at home! Awesome!

Also, when I plug these players in, they show the hard drive as 2 drives? any idea why? The last one I got didnt. this shows it as say drive G and drive H, where G stores the files, and H if you try to open says it has not been formatted, and i clicked no..?

I formatted and the space is in deed a 1 and 2gig. Just odd they both show up as 2 drives not 1 as the previous one did. This drive I also can't get my .ico file to autorun with the autorun.inf file :-/ The units drive shows up as a unknown icon.

Good to see it's working now.
Using the "MP3 Player Disk Tool", there is a tab for "encrpytion and partition", so i would have imagined that the manufacturers would have formatted it with two partitions.

FAT has a limitation of 2GB's. So in the future when they release a chip higher than 2GB, FAT32 would be the norm. FAT32 is more efficient than FAT as well. FAT I think was recommended as it was more compatible and with the older chips, it would probably have been the case. Now with the new chips, FAT32 seems to work fine.

With regards to your icon, your computer is set to autorun right? Any chance of you sending a screenshot of the "unknown icon" you see?

i got the autorun icon to work, it just took a reboot...

As far as formatting, when i formatted w/ windows it showed it as 1gb and 2...i used the tool and put the partition down to 0 and formatted and to my suprised the 2gb=1gb and the 1gb=512megs. these things are making me not like them more and more each day hehe.
