Default My New 2G MP4 Player Questions.

Hello, My name is Taylor. I am new to this forum, and new to the whole, MP4 era. I am really interested in Firmware, But I do not fully understand the meaning of it. So I have some questions.

1)What really is Firmware?

2)Am I better without updating? (I have heard some bad stories)

3)I got my MP4 Player and it looks like this, but the M(Menu) Button is the middle button, and not the top button.
http://www.futuretrend.pl/Aukcje/MP3...P4_Player2.jpg
(Right under the screen is says "MP4/WMA/REC")

4) my Firmware Version says

2005/03/15
3.5.35
2006/03/31
KTI688_V4

What does it mean?

and 5) I have Games on my MP4. Like Tetris, and a Puzzle game, can I download new ones? If so how?

Also, after posting this, I found a picture of an MP4 with the same box that mine came in. (I don't know if it will help you or not, But here..

mp4L, You need to be a little patient, this is not tech support where people are paid to give you advice it is a public forum where members kindly give their time to provide answers to your questions if they can.

1) Firmware is like the operating system of your player like Windows is to your PC.
2) You have nothing to gain by trying to upgrade your firmware and everything to lose if you use a firmware that is not compatible with your player, so i suggest you stick with what you have.
3)A lot of these players have different button configurations.
4)It means that that is your firmware version, there are hundreds of them all slightly different.
5)It is not possible to add more games to your player, basically what ever you have know is all can have.
If you look in the Knowledge Base you will find information on how you can backup your firmware using s1fwx and how you can change the theme of your firmware using s1res. Both applications can be downloaded from the Downloads>Tools section and there are many themes in the Downloads>Themes section.

mp4L

As tadad mentioned, this is not tech support for which we get paid for. I own the site and created the site and I don't even get paid for running it! This is a free resource site with help by myself, moderators and members.

You have also only given us 2.5 hrs to respond to your post as well which is not that much either.

tadad has answered your questions very well so I don't need to add more to that.

What I can say though is we have a "Knowledge Base" section (on the left hand side menu bar) which covers step by step instrutions on how to do things like extracting the firmware of your player, modifying your existing firmware and using the Tools to convert movies etc......

All tools are in our "Downloads" area along with sample files as well to get you started with your player.

Hope this helps.
