This can be for one of two reasons, firstly i recommend you DO NOT reformat your player right now.

THe first reason could be that you have reached the max amount of files allowed without having a folder, if you have not been storing all the files in folders, than you the player will not allow more than 100 file names.

To fix this, just create a new folder in the player and copy files into that and you will be fine

The second reason could be that you have a bad player, basically the factory/seller, made the player show that it held 2GB, but infact it can only hold say 1GB, this is called a hacked player. The only way to know if you have a hacked player is if you format the player, this will then show how much real memory there is, or to open the player up and look up the flash chips model number onlune.

Hopefully your problem is the first issue and all you will need to do is start placing your files in folders.

Hope this helps.

volatile,
razzer001 is right on the money, If his suggestions do not help and you purchased your player from Top Appliances at Trademe get on to them straight away and see what they have to say.

volatile, Fat is recommended but having said that I have all my players running on FAT32 with no problems. I also notice that there is a FAT32 file\driver in the firmware so I think it is only older players that are restricted to FAT format.
Keep us informed will you.
