Formatting the Player

I just got a player, love it, yet having deleting issues. If I format the drive using windows or mp3 player utility, will this stop the player from working entirely? What will I need to reload?

Jesus_Saves, You should always backup your firmware before doing anything to your player. You can do this with s1fwx from the Downloads>Tools section and a guide on how to use s1fwx is in the Knowledge Base.
Formatting is usually a safe process provided you do not have a fake or hacked memory chip usually found on 4 & 8 GB players. Formatting will delete all the files you have loaded to your player but should not effect your firmware.

thanks for the response, i have a 4gig, and it initially registered 512mb, however after a while it registered 4 gig i haveput over 3gig on it at once. how would i know if it is a fake?

Jesus_Saves, The only way to be sure is to open the player and note the chip serial number and brand then doing a Google search with the info will generally provide you with the specs. If you load it right up and can play all files without errors or restarts then you may have the first true 4GB player I have heard of. I have seen 2 players boards that have provision for 2 memory chips 2x2GB for 4GB but they only had one chip installed. As yet no one has posted that they have one.

I have not had any problems at this point playing or having issues restarting. It is working great. The only issue currently is that when I connected to my computer it resync'd my whole computers music. I tried deleting and now have a bunch of junk files on the player. The math adds up when computing folders for disk space so far. Maybe this ones legit. Would be nice to know i got what i paid for.

Jesus_Saves, The only way to know for sure is check the chip details. it would be good to know one way or the other. Up till now I have seen no conclusive proof that players over 2GB really exist but heaps of evidence that they don't.
If you open your player and check let me know.
