Default Loss of functions

Hi folks, and greetings from Geneva, Switzerland...

Could anyone help me ?

I'm new to the "MP4 World" and a little bit confused...

I recently purchased ā Nano Clone and modified the french translation to correct some words badly translated.

To do that, I used "s1res"

When I saved the translated file with a new name, to preserve the original file, s1res popped-up a small windows saying "Data overflow - some data may be lost during save"

And in fact, after flashing my Nano Clone, Games, Tel Book and Text disapeared...

Is there a bug in s1res or did I go wrong ???

Thanks for your help and support...

Mythrill, I have encountered the Data Overflow warning also after editing the text strings however the firmware still worked as normal with all features still intact.
I think the outcome may depend on the amount of editing that you do, some times I have only edited one or two words and received no error messages.
You could try to edit a few text strings at a time saving and testing your firmware each time that way you will find if there is a limit to the number of translations you can make.

If possible try to keep your translations at around about the same number of letters.

Let us know if this helps.

Mythrill, I am sorry I do not know a solution it may just be a problem within your firmware. We have a corrected Italian and Russian firmware on site and as I say I have edited many English firmware and all seem to function ok after the changes.
There are 2 versions of s1res in the downloads section 1.8 & 1.6 whatever version you are using try the other one.

Sorry I could not be more help

Ok, don't worry about that, after all, all I need is to listen music with my MP4 player...

I'm using the 1.6 version.

I'll try the 1.8 and give you a feedback...

EDIT:

Same problems vith the 1.8 version....

Hi Mythrill

I can say, that it is absolute a problem with s1res, because I īve got the same problem.
After modding of start and shutdown screen of my MP-571 Playerīs FW, text Phonebook and Games slection was jumped.

Maybee you can use "WaterlilyOne", a firmware manipulator from SCD

You will find more information at http://forum.s1mp3.org/viewtopic.php?t=3486.

Please read the whole thread before. On some (include mine  ) the tool didīnt work.

Hope this helps....

Mythrill

When changing the text, you have to make sure the text you are replacing has the SAME (or less) amount of characters.

For example, if you want to replace the text "Music" which has 5 characters, you can only replace with another word that has 5 characters or less. So "Songs" would be ok or "MP3s", but "My Music" is NOT as it has too many characters and this will produce the "Data overflow - some data may be lost during save" error message.

RE: Games, Tel Book and Text functions lost

You need to make sure you have the ORIGINAL backed up firmware for your player to get them back. I know using "Firmware Modifier" also deletes these as well when you change the "FM" function to on.

ALWAYS make a backup of your original firmware if you intend on modifying it so you have something to go back on.

Hi,

Ok, I'll try, but not now, it's quite late for me, to translate with the exact length.

And of course I have ā backup of my original FW, so I can step backward...

I will post as soon as I have done that...

Thanks again to you all for your help and support...
