4gb Really a 4gb? How can I Check?
 

Hey.

I Purchased a Nano CLone 4gb. I formatted it with windows normal format option and it still reads 4.gb (3.98gb).

I tried to do Disk Tool format but im getting an error: Not Supporting this type disk!

Disk Tool: Also its says :

Capacity: 4092.02MB

Total Secters: 8380449

partition and encrypt 1951mb 0.o


what else should i do to make sure its 4.gb

Spawn_20240, The only way to know for sure is to open the player and check the memory chip serial number and brand and a Google search will generally bring you up a data sheet on the chip.

I added 2.21GB of programs/games/mp3s.....

Does this proves its a 4gb??? I think it does without opening it.

Hey Spawn, Just by loading it up and looking at the menu on the player for space left or on the computer for amount of space left doesnt mean anything. Have you loaded it up and ACCESSED all the files? Have you opened up and seen inside how much space there is. 4GB players are not seen as yet, not any real ones atleast. Once you look at the chip and see what the situation is then you might want to use the ebay sellers name to file complaints and not give it out for referrals.

I already Loaded Over 2gb. So what its gonna be a 3gb fake???

It seems its a 4gb? Theres no reason to open it if It plays all my music and it holds my programs without error. :idea:

( My experience on opening things: (xbox controllers I broke all that i opened) I dont plan on opening this nano clone -.-

What version of the MP3 Player Utilities have you got installed on your computer?

You might want to try installing ver 3.68 instead and see if you can format it.

You can also try the: Format Utility for USB Devices from here to try to format your player.

bsaylors is right. Unfortunately filling it up doesn't tell you much until you try to play them all. The hacks are good enough now to make it look like it's copied across but in actual fact, if you try to play them all, you might get errors....

Hey Spawn, I dont think you understand. Im not jealous - I have 3 mp4 players. The idea is that although you can load upto 4 GB on it, have you tried playing all the information stored on it? Because thats when you can run into the errors. There are people who have 8GB players and they have loaded it up to 8GB but when they try and access information past a certain point they run into errors, So thats what i was saying. So what its gonna be a 3gb fake???" <- thats what im talking about - loading up info is different, you should try accessing the info by playing all the songs or by playing the videos or pictures and then see.

I played Files i added no errors...

Maybe the ebay seller with 20,000+ feedback cares about his rep. so he doesnt sell fakes? Tho he has 95.5% ( sells psp and camera memory )



I'm just gonna windows format and belive its just a 4gb. :lol:

See how you get on at a later stage. Once you fill it up to 4GB's and start playing, if u get errors, just don't be too surprise that's all. I have yet to find a TRUE 4GB player that can play everything without errors and isn't hacked.

Who knows, maybe you have finally found the holy grail?

Hey Spawn - if you got a 4GB thats great, but for the price you paid for it, it seems like a fake, but you know, I think you might be lucky unlike some others and only got a 2GB fake and not a 256MB fake..

Ya i guess i got lucky with the price. I've notice Black ones always go more expensive then white and pink. That guy is only selling black ones now.

Ive seen a topic that the SC85051A had problems ... Mine has a B

Weird one. Copied 4 GB of music and data files across and the data files were all corrupted, so suspected a hacked 4GB drive. Formatted in XP Disk Management, formatted as 4GB FAT. Suspected trick was still working. Downloaded HP formatting utility as above and it formats as FAT at 4GB. Used full format, not Quick. Still strange. Only route now is to take it apart and check the chip. More news later on that one.

UPDATE - It's got the Samsung 2GB chip - but I cant seem to force the format to tell me that. Files over 2GB definately corrupt though.

LAST UPDATE - OK, formatted with the HP utility, then used MP3 Player Utilities 4.03 and it formatted to 2GB, which is what it was reporting. Now to query it with the HK seller above. One for the rip-off section.

You won't be the only one in the rip off section :(
Good luck with your seller ... mine agreed to only do an exchange but that would cost me $20 in postage and i'd bet $1000 i would end up with another fake one. I'm going to send him photos of the serial number and links to the samsung documents ... like i really care about the warranty on this thing. Other than that, there's not really much i can do short of taking a holiday to Hong Kong and dropping in for a friendly visit :evil:

Spawn, i would recommend you copy all of the data on your mp3 player back onto your computer, and then queue it all up in your music program. If you start to hear music all over the shop you know they are nonsense files and the capacity was really only 2GB.
