How to edit firmware?

I have finally got the firmware from the factory but it is in .FW format, how can i modify the format? Are there any different types of programs that I can use to do that? Please do let me know. Thanks!

bsaylors, The FW format is generally a full version firmware and you can just rename it .bin in most cases. If it will not open in s1res then you may have to load it to your player then do a dump. The only problem I can see is there is no way to be sure the firmware you have been sent is the one for your player, you may have to do a recovery.
