Help.. volume button doesn't work

I just bought a 1gb 1.8" player for my gf and the volume button doesn't seem to be programmed. There was no firmware on the disk that came with it so I can't try reflashing it unless I can find firmware for this model somewhere.

I took the unit apart and there are no PCB markings. The chipset is ATJ2085W.

The firmware info says....

F/W Version
Core: PMA300_010
Date: 20006-03-15
FW: SRX-3.5.37
Date: 2006-03-24

Here are a couple pics of the player...

Any help on editing the firmware to program the button or newer firmware for this model would greatly be appreciated.

h8isgr8, What happens when you push the VOL button, does the speaker icon flash? If so you need to press the left or right arrow while the icon is flashing.

No. :(

The volume button doesn't do anything at all in any mode; i.e. AMV player, music player, radio.

I tried loading the firmware in waterlily to see if the button is assigned, but nothing shows up for any of the buttons. When I load the firmware from my iPod clone it shows the button assignments, but not for this players firmware.

indeed the volume DOWN doesn't work but it makes volume flashing and <> makes the work done
However volume UP still works as well
how come?

Wanderer, Some players have VOL+ ,VOL- buttons others you push the VOL button then use the <> keys. Your firmware possibly has some overlapping button assignment or coding left behind from model changes made to the firmware.

h8isgr8, Can you upload your firmware to http://www.sendspace.com/ and leave a link so I can download it and check it out.

Thank you! Sorry I'm a little late posting this, but I had pretty much given up on this player and just happened to browse this thread again out of boredom at work last night.

Here is the link....

Oh, and thanks for the sendspace link. I like how you don't have to wait X amount of seconds before you can download a hosted file.

h8isgr8, I did some fiddling with your firmware and then loaded it to one of my players and all buttons function fine. I have uploaded it along with the firmware of my player as they are both the same versions although they have slightly different layouts. If the problem with your play button is no better then I think it must be a faulty button control.
