Default Not sure what to do .. ? please help !

HI All,

I am new to this and I have a 4gb (black) ipod nano ( with the word SONY on it ) look alike from China (beijing) but somehow I think the real memory is only 1gb only as when I try to load songs more then 1gb, the whole thing just does not work anymore as it just keeps shutting down and restarting. But other thing is that when i load song less then 1 gb ( for example 200 songs ) , it just can't play the whole 200 songs, it will just play at most the first 30 songs and it will shutdown and restart.

And one more issue i am facing is that i cannnot dump the firmware that everybody else is talking about whjen running the s1fwx, it keeps saying that the device is not found or something like that ...,

And should I format it in Fat or Fat 32 as i am using WinXP with SP2 ?

The information on the firmware is "acts16d_13" and "ws-3.2.13"
The information on memory chips is "1GBAA" and "ATJ2085"
and the information on the main board is " MP-693C-SL MAIN v1.3 2005.12.14" ..,
There is also a slip of paper sticker inside with the serial # " SZKX20060033293 " .. ,

To answer your questions.

A lot of the players have a 99 song limit. So if you try to dump 200 songs in the one folder or just the root of the player it will have problems displaying them all. Try creating some folders and seperating your songs into these folders instead.

If s1fwx doesn't detect your player, than chances are it is not an ACTIONS (aka s1mp3) mp3 player. There are three main chip board manufacturer, ACTIONS, Sigmatel and Sunplus. Your player might have a Sigmatel or Sunplus board instead. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of tools or utilities out for to modify Sigmatel or Sunplus boards.

Hope that answers your questions .

Hi henry,
I have the same black sony player as yours, same board numbers and chip numbers.

the 1GBAA chip is most likely a 1 gigabit = 128 megabytes.

you need to format with fat or fat16 only to get the true size, which will appear about 110M.

see also http://forum.s1mp3.org/search.php for more info if you have trouble.

The memory is a cheap trick by makers, using cheap and small memory rather than much more expensive large sizes - then they hack the firmware to make it appear to be the large size - but this makes the player very unreliable and will corrupt the file system if you try to put on more than the 110M it can really hold.
No need to back up the firmware as formating does not hurt it.
You may need to use the supplied disk tool to get the correct memory size to appear. After this you will need to reformat it again maybe with the hp flash drive tool.

Finally you will have a nice little mp4 that can fit about 30 songs.
