ogg format

i put an ogg formated song on my player the player recognises it as ogg 128k but when i play it its all distorted. yet it plays fine on my pc! please help!

Hehehe. Sorry man, but i dont think that these mpx players support ogg format. This format is quite new and you even need special software on your computer to run these files. It would be easyer just to convert your song to a mp3 format.

Yes they can do it .. at least the 3.5.37 without file browser FW release (extension file name MUSt be .ogg)

DO NOT USE OGG IF U WANT TO SAVE SPACE USE WMA OR LOWER KBPS RATED MP3, OGGs make me puke.
OBLITERATE ALL OGG!

Hi Lorne, are you employed by Micro$oft ? Or pay by a big private internationale company? Every body know that Ogg files compare to MP3 files are smaller for the same quality.. and more: Ogg is a Free Format.. not MP3 nor WMA.

Yeh, some players are now coming out which supports .ogg format. Not all though.

It seems only certain 3.5.37 firmware supports it.

Seems to me some manufacturers might have put the extra money and invested in an 'upgrade' of the firmware to support .ogg files too. Not all, but some.

It is rather simple to know if your Mpx supports OGG.
Using s1fwx (extract or list) you’ll get a list of the modules that your machine manage, in such list OGG modules are clearly visible.
As is seen in this list:

Sorry to say, what this Lorne person do is exactly what is not the purpose of this site: to give wrong information for some unknown reason.
Ogg format is proved a better format than mp3, maybe sound quality is the same... but the size of resulting file is clearly less than mp3... this is really useful for devices with low storage capacity!!
I copy here the test I do when "Ogg music" topic was opened.

Trying to reach the highest quality, I tested the same songs encoded in mp3 lame@320 versus ogg from q10 to q7.
-q10 provide a bitrate ~500 kbit/s which unfortunately was badly reproduced in my MPx device.
All the other level of quality were correctly reproduced being -q8 ~256 the one that provide better result considering quality and size of the file, resulting in a module 15% less than the size of mp3.
Definitively this is my option for ogg encoding.

geostar... as you see the size of your OGGDEC.DSP is the same as the module I have on my mp4... then both are the same module.
You can test the quality of the sound playing it from your mp4 with the desktop music player. This is playing from the removable disk that appears in your file browser, when you plug your mp4 to your desktop thru usb port (Windows Explorer in cas of Windows users)
When you transfer ogg files from your pc to your mp4 COPY it directly. This copying from HDD to the removable disk that is your mp4.
Some programs to transfer files from desktop to mp4 CONVERT files to mp3... that is why there is a MP3 encoder (MP3ENC.DSP) in the mp4.
