Default Using the MPX with a Mac

Hello all - A newbie here who has just bought a great mpx player from that well known auction site !! Its amazing - it looks exactly like a nano and cost about a 1/4 of the price and has better functionality !!

Question is where on earth do you get all the conversion software for the mac ?? At the moment I can only use it as an mp3 player and I'm dying to get some video onto it !!

There is no conversion software compatible with a Mac at the moment. The only solution is to use a Windows emualator instead to emulator a Windows environment and then install the AMV Convert Tool in there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your post.
What are "applescript programs"?
The Sondconverter and firmware upgrade, are they the same program that is part of the MP3 Utilities? Or different program altogether?

The other question is, does it work ok on your Mac as well? If so, then yes, would love to see you upload to the site. Thanks!

Thanks to Tadad and Binh, they suggested using a PC emulator for a Mac. I ended up installing Virtual PC 7 for Macs and Windows XP Home.

I have been able to install the mp4 player software to XP and connect my nano-clone and download my firmware. So using an emulator on a Mac works.

However, getting Windows to see my clone every time I connect it has been hit or miss...mainly miss.

If Skid has Mac programs that do the same thing the Windows software does, that would be great for us Mac users!

I'm still working on the connection issue...I'll keep you all informed how it goes.

P.S. It's great to see the forum back up and running, I was going thru major withdrawal!

Hey bluaerio,

Glad to see you got it working.
Is Virtual PC 7 a free download for Mac?

Yeh, keep us updated on how it goes with your emulated Windows detecting your computer. I can't make any real suggestions as I don't have a Mac nor have used teh Virutal PC for a Mac before.

What if you plug your MPx player into your Mac BEFORE booting up the Mac, then run the Virtual PC with Windows? Maybe try that as it might have a better chance of picking up the removable device instead.....? Again, not entirely sure as I'm not a Mac user.

Nano Clone Mac tools - Download

Applescript tools are like .bat files. Easy to create and easy to use. To apply new firmware. Just plugin your player and double click on the applescript prog. select fw to upload and viola. Hope it helps

Binh,

I downloaded Vitual PC 7 from Limewire, a p2p network.
I use it to download music, you can also download videos, photos and programs.

I have tried connecting my player to the Mac before starting VPC. It shows up on my Mac's desktop. When I start VPC my player shows up as a removeable device in windows, but when I click it to select it, it disappears from the desktop, and the screen on the player jumps from the connection screen to the video menu screen.

I managed to get windows to "catch" it several times, but each time I did something different to do it, and I didn't remember actually what I did.

I'll get it eventually, and I'll post for everyone else.

Ok, keep us posted if you manage to get it working. I'm not too familiar with the Virtual PC yet,. Maybe check on their forum to see if anyone else is having problems for Mac's?

Can you convert it through Virtual PC then copy it from the Virtual PC session onto your Mac? Then copy the file from your Mac onto your MPx player? Abit of a long way of doing it though ah... Would be nice for you to copy it directly onto your MPx player through your Virtual PC.

Hi there,
i'm a newbie at this forum, and a passioned mac user.
virtual pc is a simulator for pc software, but not a free of shareware program. its a ms program, that is no longer devalloped, because the new mac processor is a intell dual core now.

i also have problems converting, stupid enough i thougt avi or mp4 files would be good, but allas...

what is the best way on the pc side of my computer ( mac ) to find a freeway program to convert? is the program that came with the nanolookalike the best?

and...because the manual is so bad, do i have to make maps??? to put my files in?
my chinese is so bad and there english even worst than mine!

Thanks in advance for answers and help. i would love to do the same on mac issues.
