No Recording Feature- BSOD
Hi Folks,
Nice forum here. I happened on it while trying to troubleshoot this new nanoclone 2G. When i press menu while on the record or voice menus, the clone screen goes blue for about 3 secs, then the hourglass to reboot. If i try to fm radio record, it does a little differently, it locks up first, and then reboots.... What can i do??? Help!!!! Thanx. firmware: sc85051f 2006/04/25 act_v.3.5.35 |
maceman, It is normal for the player to go to a colored screen for a few seconds as the record feature initializes and the player will generally display a message while doing this but if your player is then rebooting would indicate that there is a problem with the firmware or hardware. You could try extracting your firmware with s1fwx, repairing it with the repair.bat then loading it back to your player. You will find s1fwx in the Downloads
The voice function is for listening to your recordings and will some times have a problem if you try to access the function without having any recordings or .wav files on your player. If repairing the firmware does not help I would look at a replacement or refund from your seller. |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
I really appreciate the quick response. I will give this a whirl and report back. Cheers.

Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
Yeah, unfortunately- after the firmware backup and replace, it still dumps at record etc...
I've contacted the vendor, so we will see what happens. :( |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
another thing i just noticed is that the 2 files i made into an .amv file don't play.
The initialize, but after like 1 second, it jumps back to the intro screen? weird. |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
maceman, try downloading a couple of samples HERE and see if they play ok.
Do the files you converted play in the AMV Player on your PC if so right click on the picture while it is running and select properties and it will give you size and frame rate info, does this info match the sample .amv that came with your player. |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
hmmm, that is interesting. When i looked at the sample file i had, it said 10
128X128 but the one i made says 12 176X144 So when i went back into the converter to try again, i see the only options i have start at 160 X 120 and go higher from there..... do i have the wrong version of software? |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
I noticed you had an older version, version 4.0 that will encode 128 x 128.
My question is why the newer version doesn't have the lower frame sizes as well? or is that a glitch on my version? |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
I was able to get the video to play using the 128X128 setting. Thanx for the tips...
sorry for all my posts. but hey, maybe someone else will use it as a learning curve as well :P Ok, i notice thew max volume is 31. Everything is so quiet. Is that normal? Would other earplugs help? These are the default ones. I spoke with the vendor. He said to mail it back and he can fix it. So i have to do that i guess..... |
maceman, It sounds like you are using version 4.00 or 4.03, you can unlock the small screen settings by going to the AMVConverter folder, open AmvTransform.ini in notepad and change CHIPTYPE=1 to CHIPTYPE=0
The low sound could be a codec problem during conversion, installing the K-Lite Mega Codec pack may help http://www.free-codecs.com/download_...hp?d=2267&s=42. You should definatly upgrade the earphones as well the difference from a good quality pair is worth the investment. |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
Looks like my clone experience is going to be short-lived
This email just came in... __________________________________________________ ____ Hello Matt, the message was sent to everyone who recieved their player and after 3 days. I am still working on your problem and I believe I have found a solution. I apologize for the hassle, especially that message that was sent to you. It seems that our 2gbs and 4gbs DO NOT have voice recorder working. I apologize for the inconvienience. Because of this I have to purchase new players from my old supplier (at a higher cost). You have two options. Either I REFUND your money from Paypal or, if you could wait until friday when I recieve my shipment and test it, I will send you a new WORKING 2GB. Please let me know and once again I apologize, this is not good business but you must understand the frustration I am through because I have to deal with soo many customers concerning this and I am trying not to ruin my reputation. Take care Matt. |
maceman, Sounds like a good honest seller though.

Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
yeah, i certainly will give him that. He did have 100% positive feedback as well and has been courtious throughout. He says it was some manufacturing error and that this Friday he will be getting some 4gig ones in-different supplier-, and that he would test everything and let me know in case i was interested, so i thought that was cool. I already got paypaled back from him, so maybe if the next ones work, he will ship free to cover my lost costs.
So that raises another question. Is there anything i should be watching out for in the way of the 4Gig ones? Are they okay? Problems? Thanx. ...maceman |
Re: No Recording Feature- BSOD
...i just read another thread that said tha tthe 4gig does not exist...?
Ok, if this is the case, what should i tell him to check this coming friday to prove it? Shall i ask him to format it via windows and then check? |
maceman,
I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe that 4G players actually exist. For a start to the best of my knowledge the ATJ2085 chipset that powers these players can only support a maximum of 2GB Nand Flash memory. I would suspect that if they were possible they would use 2x2GB as the Ipod Nano does rather than a single far more expensive 4GB chip and I have never seen or heard of anyone having a dual chip chiPod. They would also be significantly more expensive than the 2GB player but do not seem to be. Unfortunatly formating the player does not always fix the problem. The only way to know for sure is to check the chips serial number against it's manufacturers specifications. Interestingly enough on the local auction site here in New Zealand called Trademe which is only available to local and Australian traders I have only seen 2 traders trying to sell them. The first one strangely pulled his product after Binh and I asked him some pointed questions and mentioned the word fake, the second I only came across yesterday and am waiting to see how he responds to my comments. |
