Default Wrongly formated to lower capacity

I recently bought this player (1gb) which used to show 998 mb on computer and used to show two partition on the USB, one for data and the other for firmware. But after one day when I connected the USB again to computer, it was showing only one partition and that also was showing for the free memory left on the partition, i.e., songs on the mpe player was playing and it was one of the songs stored in the player totoalling to 450 mb. And the partition was not showing on the computer, therefore I cannot remove or add new songs in the player. And computer was prompting me to format the USB as it was not recognizing the drive. I removed few songs from the USB players menu by deleting and the free size in percentage showd increase. Then I formated the drive as I was not able to store new songs. But after I formated the USB player, it formated the emply space which was showing earlier. And the files stored on it were lost including the space they were occuping.

Now, is there any method by which I can format by giving it the size to format as now it is only showing 475 mb in the normal formting software. How can I recover the space, as I am sure it was of 1 gb. Is it possible to format it as 1 gb and them install all the software in it, that is, fm player, recording player, photo viewer, telephone viewer and AVM player.

singh, what software did you use for formating? If it was the Disk Tool software, ensure that the encryption slider under the Partition and Encrypt tab is slide all the way to minimum (0MB). Try formating this way and you might recover the "encrypted" memory space.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Hello, I had the same problem with my black 1Gb ipod nano clone (screen 1.8') bought on eBay. I wasn't able to listen the song over rank 126 (approximately over 512 Mo)
When I formated the player with MP3 Player Utilities I still got 1Gb but in fact if I was able to download 1 Gb, over 512 Mo I couldn't play the song.
Then I finally open the player to look at the memory reference. It's a Samsung memory and for 1Gb the reference should have been K9K8G08U0M = 1GB but it wasn't the case. I check on Samsung site the reference of my memory wich is 512 Mo....
I finally format with the HP formatting tool available in this forum I got 475 Mo which is the real capacity of my memory. Now it's working fine but I have only 512 Mo because my player is a fake

Hi You wrote that your mp3 player is now 512 mb. Is your player showing this number in the setting/memory information window, or you have assumed it to be 512, although your player is showing 475 mb?

I have also checked the samsung chip on the mp3 and by that it seems to be a 512 mb chip. But how can 37 mb be utilized for the flash firmware when flash dump is about 7 mb?

singh, The firmware file is like a zip file the information is compressed. When you install a firmware it will lock off a section of your memory where the firmware files will reside. Sometimes this area is set larger than it really needs to be.

Hi, my player is showing 475 Mb in the setting/memory information window, so I think that the real capacity is 512Mo which is confirmed by the ref of the memory installed.
The answer given by tadad1 is probably the good one to explain the difference between 475 Mo and 512 Mo.

By formating with the Disk Tool or Hp format tool, you won't lose any firmware data, only the data like mp3s, videos, text will be lost.
