No Sound!!

Hello all,

I have a new kind of a problem. My 1.5 inch, 1GB mp4 player has 2 jacks for headphones. (ad 2 small built i speakres) I conected one pin to the other using the speaker wire, that is, in one, I put the speaker input wire, in the other the speaker output wire. poof, heard a small noise.
Then the sound of my mp4 player has dissapeared almost! I cant hear AnYTHnIG! just some noise and very very faint sound. The rest of the player is working fine.
I opened it up but foud all connections intact. dont know what to do, any idea to help me repair it? will formatinng correct this problem???

haseebanjum, I am not sure what you were trying to do but sounds like you may have caused a short by linking the two. If you are not getting sound from speakers or earphones the damage may not be repairable.

So you meant that you used the 1st earphone output and connectted it to the 2nd earphone output?

Try using another set of earphones, also does the speaker still have sound?

If all these do not work, high chance that some components (most probably a capacitor) might have blown in your player. I'm not sure about the schematic layout of your player. But if i'm not wrong, there would be 2 lines coming out from the processor/audio amplifier in parallel to provide the sound. By "shorting" like what you did, probably caused a feedback current to the processor or audio amplifier and most cases would blow up the capacitor that is connected between the amplifier and audio socket.

Not sure how to go about solving this. Would be a very tedious process to locate the damaged components. Either you could try locate the damaged components or get someone to help you with this.

yeah, guess I am done!! although i can still use it as a usb drive. something must have short circuited inside but cant locate it. n electronics guy told me its not repairable, these devises are kinda disposable... lols. no more experiments from now on :shock:
tc, btw, should i format it? maybe installing a firmware will coreent it but i doubt it. wht do u guys say?

haseebanjum, you could try formatting your player. But i doubt it would solve the problem of the earphone jacks.

Or maybe your could try re-flashing with a new firmware, but it's better to extract your current player's firmware, repair it and re-flash it back.

You could use other's firmware files from the download section, but you might end up killing your player if you flash with an incompatible firmware, it won't even function as a usb drive. And you might end up going through the process of the dead player recovery.

Indeed something might have short-circuited inside, and if you were to try to repair it, without proper equipment to test components inside for resistance, inductance & capacitance, you have a very low chance of detecting the damaged components. Also, you might have problems purchasing certain components as some of these components might be custom-made by the manufacturer for the player.
