Well, took me some time to remove the sticker that was stick onto the chip and the number in it was K9F2G08U0M from Samsung... By comparing this to your list it would be 256Mb.
Ok, i can accept this FACT that i've been cheat with the Space of the MP4 but doesn't borther me much cuz i get this MP4 for free.

And cardinalbird, hope you get your 4Gb back cuz it would be devastating comparing the ratio of Memory Space lost due to the hacked chip with mine, 1Gb - 256Mb and yours' is 4Gb - 128Mb... :?

cardinalbird, You need to open your layer and check the memory chip serial number to find it's true size. My guess is your chip is only 128MB.

You can check the serial numbers for Samsung and Hynix chips here:

This is my problem:

my player shoulb be of 1g

but Iīve never been able to charge that amount of data.
at the beggining It appear on the computer as two different disks, I loaded the files in the one I could enter, cause the other one was with no format.
Half of the files I loaded worked right but when I tried to play the other half the player rebooted itself.
"how misterious!" I thought
then I started to delete those files that were corrupted (at least that`s what I thought!) but I could not.
How strange! I thought that time.
Suddenly without advice windows let me delete the files and I left the player empty.
I load songs again.
And something even stranger happened in one folder (the "record" one used to save the things you tape with the player) were all the songs again and again and again, itīs hard to explain, but I thought, IT MUST BE A VIRUS! EUREKA! so I decided to format the drive ... now the displays says that my memory is of 474 MB
Is it hacked? or I did something wrong?
when I use the encrypting tool it says that the memory is of 474 MB too
but before it said that it was of 969.780 MB (something like that)
anyway itīs a crap, can anybody tell me if this testdisk can help me?

to be honest this player is quite a headache

Tadad,

I have a mp4 2G that I tried to use your test disk tool on but when I tried the program it said the drive was not the correct size (or something like that).
I then used the tool in the 4.00 amv convert program ran the slider from full left to full right, repartitioned and then used windows to reformat in FAT mode. Well guess what my 2G is really a 1G! Not as bad as others here have been scammed but still a bit of a bummer. I then opened the case and confirmed the samsung # K9K8G08U0A chip is installed. I have a few more units on order from ebay and I hope they are no worse. Thanx so much all you guys for your hard work and efforts to help us all. It is greatly appreciated!

Is anyone getting true 2G players off of ebay?

Dave

Hi tadad1

On reading this thread, I am a litle confused! I have bought 3 of these 'bogus' players from eBay sellers and there is something wrong with ALL of them. ops: One of them shows up in Windows as a 4GB, but it corrupts everything above 1GB (980MB to be exact!).

The seller told me to format it as FAT and not FAT32, is this correct? Also, I have not had any usable utility disks shipped with these players (either they don't contain the firmware or they are corrupt and the only thing they contain that works after a fashion is the video conversion software).

Also, they are supposed to read TXT files but all I get is a file (with a readable filename), but the text is jibberish?

Also, one of the batteries is completely dead (so I am unable to tell what capacity it is), is there any way to change the batteries for these players and if so, where do I get one?

Thanks for all your great help.

I'm at my wits end with it all and wonder if I should have paid the price for a Sandisk Sansa!
