Default Uxcell Classic MP3 Player -- directory for files?

I borrowe an Uxcell Classic style MP3 player -- http://tinyurl.com/yhwnad -- but the disc partitions were fouled up beyond all recognition. Specifically, my Redhat 9 box could not recognise them in order to add files.

I finally deleted the partitions, replaced them with a new FAT partition and reformatted the player's flash drive, Everything is lovely, except for one minor issue. I can add files to the player, but the player doesn't recognise that MP3 files exist on it.

My suspicion is that it looks in a specific directory for MP3 files, and it can't find mine because they're not in that directory. Of course, I don't know what the correct directory might be called, either. I'm hoping somebody can help me. Please?

I can use the radio, and store files on it, and use the voice recorder (though apparently the voice files are not written to the USB drive); it just can't play the mp3 file I put on.

Bookwyrm,
I had a pendrive type MP3 player some years ago and just dumped all my mp3 files into the ROOT directory.
The record feature uses 2 folders ?:\record\voice\ and the recorded files get saved in the voice folder. These folders are usually created when you start to record but you may have to create them yourself.
It should not be any different but these players can be pretty temperamental so it may be worth formatting the player on a Windows box.

Which doesn't work on this one.

That's interesting; I recorded a voice clip and then remounted the drive to check where it had stored the data. The apparent answer? Not on the drive.

I unmounted the drive and tested the previous voice recording. It's still there.

I try not to ask for help before exhausting my own resources :-)

If I had a Windows box, I would have done that in the first place.
