can't transfer to MP4 player!

hello people,

I have just bought an MP4 player which is 4 gig off ebay, its the one which is a copy of the nano!,
Problem is, it came from hong kong and the instructions are not exactly great!
I have a disk full of drivers with no specific instructions as to which ones to install etc.

Have tried installing the suite which enables you to see it as a removable device but u cant drag/drop anything on to it, just says can't write to device, properties say that it's full??? but its brand new!

Help please :-(

Ice_VTR, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the problem may stem from the fact that your player may have a hacked memory chip. 2GB is the maximum memory size that these players currently support. The hack alters the master boot record so that the chip reads a s much larger than it really is, in some cases 4GB and 8GB players have turned out to be really only 128MB.

These players run as a standard USB drive so if you are using Windows XP drivers are normally installed on connection and no furthur applications are needed to transfer files.

If you install MP3 Player Utilities you can use the MP3 Player Disk Tool to remove the hack. Connect your player and then run the Disk Tool, go to the Partiton Encrypt tab and move the slider all the way right and then move it back all the way left and press start.
This wil rebuild the partition and your player should then read it's correct size.

You can download MP3 Player Utilities for 1.5 screens HERE and for 1.8 screens HERE

You will find quite a few posts in the forums regarding hacked players and a blacklist of ebay traders who sell them. Here are a few you should read.

To confirm your chips real size you need to open your player and check the memory chip serial number against this list of Samsung and Hynix chips HERE
