MP4 Digital Player (looks like a nano) Not detected?

Ok, It looks like a nano but no logo and has MP4 Digital Player written just beneath the 1.5 screen. It has a 2GB capacity. My friend gave it to me as he now uses his new phone for all his multi media needs. It worked fine for him.. we are both running XP. My problem is that it is not being detected at all! ..No pop ups on PC when I plug it in however the player does light up and shows me it's charging. I've tried to search for it manualy and nothing~ On CD the only drivers are for win 98. There is some MP3 Player utilities on the CD too but that won't seem to install either. The little CD whizzes round lots. The instructions are in some funny translation of English (Double Dutch?) On the instructions is apple logo sign haha!... Needless to say this was bought on EBay a couple of months ago.

On the MP3 player the menu shows these options. Music, record, voice, FM radio, text, picture, phone book, games, movie, sys setup.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me getting this thing going, to start taking my music from the PC. I'm sick of just listening to the radio on it! lol

Many thanks for ur help in advance..

Hi Tadad, Yes I do have SP2 and as far as I'm aware everything is up to date. I had a USB Pen drive 'type' MP3 Player that pluged and played in fine. This is so baffling and fustrating me I really hope I can start putting some of my own music on there soon. The friend of mine who had it before has loaded it with his style of music (which I'm soo not into! lol) he was running XP. It worked fine for him but we can't figure out why it's not happening for me... OOO Please Help! x

chrixxy,
Try connecting it to a different USB port, one that you have not used the other player on before.
This sort of problem is often a fault in the USB cable with a poor connection on one of the data lines but if it worked on your friends PC I don't see why it would not on yours but see if any move ment of the cable or connectors while plugged in gets a responce.

Definately take tadad's suggestion and try another USB port.

Otherwise if you can, try another USB cable. Since you said it worked in your friend's computer before, I would point it to a problem with the USB port on your computer somewhere. Trying another USB port and let us know what the result is.

You may also want to try this as well:
- In your player's main menu, go to "Setup", choose "Online Mode" and select "Normal". See if that helps.

i found the solution to my problem...
it was the usb cable.. it is a bit broken or the contacts of the player are loosened...

I've tried it on several ports but still not detected. It is charging on all ports though!

I think I would end up chucking this thing if it didn't have radio lol... I'm getting fustrated. More help so very very welcome and thankyou to all those who currently helping. Excellant site. I will to see if I can find another connector in the mean time! Maybe one from my old digital camera might work?

Forgot to add, that I've changed the online mode setting to normal and still nothing. Plus thought I'd ask if there is anything that I should have installed on my pc for this to work? The CD contains MP3 Player Utilities but it seems uninstalable! The version of that is 3_5_1.8寸屏 ((?? is two squares!)) The firmware version info on the player is:

MP3 Player
SC85051C
2006/03/12
ACT_V3.5.35

Hope this helps someone...
