Desperatedan, Tell me a bit about your player, what size screen, how many GB?

"I've put music on it, I can see some of the files but it won't play them" Does this mean that not all of the files you have loaded are visible in explorer?

How have you added the files to your player?

Hi tadad1, you can see a picture of the player posted by PRAXXUS on the 15 oct 2006, I bought the same one on Ebay, 4GB mp3/mp4. I draged and droped files to the removable disk, the files are there in the player. I can see them when I double click the removable disk icon in my computer. I've been in touch with the seller through Ebay he said he's going to call me this morning I won't hold my breath. os winxp. Dan

Are you putting .mp3 and .wma files into the room of your player?

If you have, then from your player, you should be able to go into the "Music" menu, press the [Menu] button and it should show the songs on there. Then press the [Play] button.

Also, if you've bought a 4GB player, then chances are, it has bee 'hacked' to show more storage than it physically has. Having a hacked player will produce the problems you mentioned as well as it's not copying all the files across, only making a dud/false copy of it which isn't playable.

Try formatting your player and then see how much space you have on it afterwards (make sure you backup the files you want to keep that you've already copied across).

Desperatedan,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this could be due to a hacked memory chip. At present these players will only support a maximum of 2GB Nand Flash Memory but what happens is the memory chips are hacked so that they read larger than there true size in your case 4GB. Once you start loading files to the player you start having problems like file corruption, resets, player restarts etc.

The only way to overcome the problem is to format the player and remove the hack so that your player reads it's correct size.
They can be difficult to properly format because of the hack so if you have problems you could try this method

The only way to confirm your chips true size is to open the player and check the memory chip serial number against this list of Samsung and Hynix chips

If you browse through the forums you will see lots of posts regarding hacked players and there is even a black list of ebay sellers who sell them.

Your other option is to start a claim with ebay and paypal for a full refund including shipping as follows

"How to get full refund and how to expose fraudulent sellers?
Check if the seller is still actively listing the same counterfeit items right now!
After confirmimg receiving counterfeit item, you should complete the Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described process dispute after 10 days of item closing date so that eBay or Paypal is alerted of the development of fraudulent situation. If you have paid by Paypal, you can also complete the Paypal Buyer Complaint Process to get refund from Paypal within 45 days.
Since you have NOT been provided with what you have paid for, it does not falls into seller's return policy. You are covered by the 90 days protection period under eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program.
Unless these fraudsters would risk their eBay account for permanent suspension, they will for sure be in contact with you quicker than anything else. You then regain control of the situation and the power is again on your side.
Counterfeit is FRAUD, do not settle with the seller unless the seller is paying for all the associated return shipping cost of the item.
You still own the right to provide negative feedback against the seller to alert the fraudulent situation to warn other eBayers.
Provided that you have provided negative feedback to the seller and if subsequently the seller provides you with an unfair retaliatory negative feedback, you have a case to lodge against the seller by requesting eBay for feedback removal to fully protect your feedback.
Effectively you will get your money back either from the seller or from eBay/Paypal. Most important by going through this, you have assisted the process of exposing fradulent sellers on eBay, which will result in permanent suspension of the seller's account.
In most countries, FRAUD is a CRIMINAL offense and injunctions may be brought against the fraudsters to prevent them from moving on under a different name after being banned. Thus, you may choose to contact your law enforcement agencies or each respective brand manufacturers in your region, to report counterfeit and provide them with your item detail and the source of the item."
