usb mic into one end and plug the other side into my mp4

After months of calls and posts, i have been unable to find a product that i can plug my usb mic into one end and plug the other side into my mp4 player.
So, I have decided to attempt to build one on my own, with no knowledge at all.
K this is the car charger I have, and since its useless in Toronto, I want to use it for this

Hi Lorne

Just to make sure I fully understand what you are after. Basically you want something you can plug your USB MIC into, then plug that into your MP4 player? So you will have an external MIC for your MP4 player, is that what you mean?

Also, you want to plug this into the earphone jack?

If that is the case, there might be a problem.
First is that the earphone jack is OUTPUT (ie: sound comes out of the earphone jack into the earphones), so it's not an input. As far as I know, this means you won't be able to use it as an INPUT to input sounds from a Mic using the earphone jack.

Some devices have TWO jack points. One for earphones and one for external MIC. I have attached a photo of an MP3 player that has both inputs. I think what you need is to find one that has this, otherwise I don't think it will work if you try to convert the USB into an earphone jack and try to plug it into the earphone jack.

LOL admin you still dont understand man. I just want to be able to use the headphones, not the mic, the mic is dead. I just want to be able to listen to the music through that

Hi Lorne,

I was abit confused as your original post says the following "a product that i can plug my usb mic into one end and plug the other side into my mp4 player".

You mentioned "MIC".

So you want to be able to hear through the headphones using a USB headphone, is that right?

Admin,

I agree with you. This post is a bit confusing...

Hello there,

i can't find the use of conecting a USB Headset to the Mpx player because the USB Headset main body will be three or four times bigger than the player, second, i don't belive that will be possible, let start: there is 2 types of USB Devices:
  • Server
  • Client (Slave or active)

the server type is usually a PC

the Client are the peripheral (printers, mouses, keyboards, memory sticks, headsets, mpx players..... i made my point :D )

the USB protocol relies in a Server-Client comunication then you can't connect a Client to another Client directlty, you will need a device working as server for both devices.

in the hypothetical case you connect the MPx Player to USB Headset you will need the next:
  • a hypothetical device where you connect the player, that device will read (and process) the files in the player, because the player is only a USB Mass Storage Device in the USB (the player has the read and process files in firwmare).
  • the same hypothetical device must receive the USB Headset and send the procesed stream.

another config wil be:

another hypothetical device, in a side you connect the hearphones output of Player to the device, the device will convert the analog input to a digital output what will be send to USB Head set.

in eigther case you end with a device twice bigger than the mpx player, a high battery drain (the MPx player must feed the player, the device and the headset) and possible low quality sound (if you make by hand the device)

then is your choice, i recomend:

have a nice day,

pd sorry for my english

Well said impeeza.

I never took electronics at school.

Took computers through.
The USB situation will need a complete change to the chip board if it were to host external USB devices.
