Default Music folder names garbled

half the time I cannot read the names of my music folders, they are all garbled. I have a 2gb mp3 player with radio. My language is set as english and I have not flashed the firmware. What is wrong with my 2 week old player?

The firmware is
2005/03/15
3.5.35
2006/05/25
MD075_v1.1

I couldn't upload a photo so have made the problem my avatar.

Stickynz

What language are the songs in? They are all in English?

Majority of the time, reason why it's garbled up is that when set to "English", it will only display English characters. So if you have songs that have ID3 tags in another language, it won't show them.

Details of songs are generally taken from ID3 tags written in the MP3 songs itself. Try using Winamp (you can download it from our site as well under the "Downloads" section) to edit the ID3 tags of the MP3 song and it should fix it.

Yes, I have formatted three times. Once normally, then once buy sliding the partition slider to the right then formating again and then sliding the partition back to the left.

All of the song files are english - the problem is intermittant sometimes I will change folder and the songs display correctly sometimes not.

Stickynz, Is the problem on your player or when you view the files on your player in explorer?
Try extracting the firmware with s1fwx repair it and reload it back to your player. You will find a guide in the Knowledge Base on how to do this. s1fwx can be downloaded from the Downloads>Tools section.

Yes the problem is on the player - have a look at the screen shot in my avatar. This is what is happening on my player.

I am not sure that I want to play with the firmware. It says this could result in a dead player. Wouldn't this void my warranty?

Stickynz,

If you use your OWN firmware and especially the firmware that you extracted from your OWN player using the s1fwx, it should be ok.

Dead players normally come about when people use other people's firmware instead which are not compatible with their player. If you use your own firmware, it should be fine.

I would suggest it as well.

To be honest, if it's intermittent, then it sounds like a hardware issue. Is your player still in warranty? If so, try to get it fixed or replaced by the seller. It shouldn't do this that's for sure.
