Re: help samsung memory reports wrong size
dailyroach , yes the Samsung K9WAG08U1A is a 2 GigaByte memory chip.
Before formatting, go to the Partition and Encyption tab, and ensure that the slider is slide to min (left), and then format it. Probably certain parts of the memory is being encrypted. |

Re: help samsung memory reports wrong size
well... after being a tec for 6 years and solving countless naging computer problems
im finally stumped ... i have played with the stupid software included with the player and allso the one off this site to get my 2 gig chip back to its true size could it be the controller (hacked firmware) could it be that windows xp is incompattable with a FAT partition could it be that the stamp on the chip is fake too !!!! god only knows ... i think ill just buy a 30gig ipod video lol |
Re: help samsung memory reports wrong size
dailyroach , i don't have a clue with your problem. You have tried all the tools mentioned and also tadad1's hacked chip recovery program. Maybe it has something to do with the initial memory hack when you 1st received the player, causing the MBR to be corrupted. Or simply it could be that the remaining "lost" MB are bad/damaged sectors. You might want to try a final attempt at scandisk, but i doubt it'll solve the problem. :(

Re: help samsung memory reports wrong size
thx for the reply maby it is a damaged mbr any clues on how to restore it as the guy i got it off has 4 more identical

dailyroach,
I wonder whether if the true size of your memory chip is actually a 512MB chip? That the "SAMSUNG 631 K9WAG08U1A" printing on the chip had been incorrectly stamped as saying "SAMSUNG 631 K9WAG08U1A" instead? That might be possiblity. Have you also tried formatting it through Windows Explorer as well just to double check? The Disk Tool shouldn't 'break' anything in the memory as I haven't heard it doing so so far. |
Re: help samsung memory reports wrong size
this also could be a fact the chips could be incorectly stamped because it is actually 100% stable runing with its 474meg partition now guess the only way to find out for shure is to contact samsung and find out if they have shiped a batch of wrongly stamped chips ....
