[Solved] 4GB MP4 problems.I need help / advice........
Afternoon all, I've just joined the site as I've recently bought a 4GB Mp4 player off ebay and I've encountered a number of problems / issues.
One of the problems is for some reason when I've copied a some music files over, it starts to duplicate everything on the player (when viewing it through windows explorer) I had 3 extra copies at one point? I read in a post about formatting the player, but backing up the fireware is it? I'm a real novice at this sort of thing. Also I've downloaded a movie to AMV convertor (3.68), now it seems to convert ok but when I copy it over to my player it doesn't even recognise the files being there? Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys. |
Re: 4GB MP4 problems.I need help / advice........
lashed , seems like your player's memory was hacked. Low-level format your player using the MP3 Utilities Disk Tool, that came in the CD, or you can download from the downloads section.
But be prepared for a large loss of "memory" as currently these players only supports a max of 2GB memory. |
Re: 4GB MP4 problems.I need help / advice........
I'm not to bothered about loosing half the memory as long as I can get it working properly. Don't get me wrong it sucks and is annoying as hell!
Any chance you can steer me in the direction of step by step instructions of 'low-level formatting'. Sorry but I'm really clueless when it comes to MP players. Cheers matey. |

Hello, just download the program in the download section and format the player you will get a 512MB player, because you player is not a 4 GigaBytes is a 4 Gigabites (note the y and i ) and 4Gigabites/8bites_by_byte = 512MegaBytes. sorry.

Re: 4GB MP4 problems.I need help / advice........
lashed , install the MP3 Utilities that came on the CD, or download ver3.68 Here, or ver4.05 Here.
Once installed, there will be a Disk Tools installed in it. Click on it and chose "LOW" level format. Next, go to Partition & Encrypt tab, and slide the slider all the way to the left (min), and click on format. This would rebuild the whole partition and hopefully the problems goes away. It's not necessary you'll end up with 512MB. It might be a 2GB or 1GB or even 128MB chip. Lastly, you don't need to worry about the firmware. As normal formatting only clears data in the memory module, not the processor's ROM. |

Thanks a lot Lattesurf.
Ritgh I've used the Disk Tools and formatted the player. What's the next step? Is it a case of simpl putting music and videos back on? Also how can I see how much memory the player has or hasn't got? lol |

Re: 4GB MP4 problems.I need help / advice........
lashed , after the formatting is done, it'll function as a normal usb drive. Just copy and paste files into your player. And your player would play them as normal.
You can check the actual memory capacity either through the Disk Tool (it'll be displayed there), or through Windows My Computer. |
