Re: How To: Removing Memory Hack

Hi boys,

just received my 16GB MP3/MP4 player : it worked well, and I made what said on this topic to see how much memory it has. Now, when I put music on it, it always saiy "empty memory", damn, why ?

thx

edit : all right, I found a "solution" : I copied again the default directory, named "1.8", and it worked... (fortunately, I made a backup of this default directory !)

It's confirmed!!! After I used this How to guide I end up with 17.2mb of usable memory!!

I've formatted..redone the steps in the guide and If I complete the steps I end up with 17.2mb..

2 drives appear as stated above...Drive F & Drive J
Drive F has 17.2 MB & drive J has 4GB

What is drive J? a ghost drive or what??

I should also add that drive F is in FAT and Drive J is in FAT32 I can't get them both in the same format..thus I'll never get to use the 2GB of actual memory on these players..

Check your firmware.. if i's 9.5.54 stay away from this Guide.. it will destroy any & all memory..it doesn't destroy the firmware, but renders it useless with 17.2mb of usable storage..

It has been excellent guide for players I've purchased in the past, but these newer ones must have some NEW HACK that works around this guide.. It was first posted in 2006..I'm sure by now the Chinese sellers have caught on to it..In fact they have because I actually seen screen shots of it on one of the eBay listings

If anyone else experiences the problems I did above please PM me with the details..

Thanks

DO NOT format using windows if you have one of the newer Actions AK202x chips. It screwed mine up for a bit. Other than that, great tutorial.

Open it up and google the number on the NAND flash chip. My 8gb player had a 1gb chip in it. This tutorial doesn't work with the newer firmware.

Once you find out how big it really is, just set the 'encrypted' partition to be as big as everything except what's really there, i.e. 7gb encrypted, 1gb normal. then set it to only show the normal one in the Online Mode menu, under setup on the player.

srry i can't be more specific, i gotta go. good luck

markv 18th Aug 2009 5:42 pm

so what for the people who have AK202X or 9.5.54 firmware?

Okay, I agree, don't use this guide, but you most likely have 1gb instead of 17.2mb. Try formatting it with the format tool so that the 'normal' partition is less than 1gb. Worked for mine and a few others.

http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b7.../mp4player.jpg

I just recently bought this mp4 player off eBay. As you can see from the pic it was supposedly 8GB but seems if I put more than 2GB of music and videos on it I start getting a "The File Not Exist" error message. So obviously it's memory hacked.

Anyway, I actually do like it so I was wondering. It has a mini SD slot. Does being memory hacked interfere with being able to use an SD card with it. Like would I get the full capacity of the card or not?

sqeeek 27th Aug 2009 6:20 pm

You should be able to use all the memory on a micro-sd card, as long as it's small enough for the player to support. If I remember correctly, these only take up to about 4gb, but you shouldn't have any problems with using normal micro-sd cards. The hacked memory does not interfere with the usage of your card, they're separate, as far as i know.

Or you could solder very long wires onto the battery, plug it into 120 volts, and watch it explode :D
But u didn't hear that from me. ;)

geester 30th Aug 2009 3:37 pm

I have just tested my players memory with H2testw 1.4

this is the result of the test
The media is likely to be defective.
961.4 MByte OK (1969046 sectors)
7.0 GByte DATA LOST (14756970 sectors)
Details:7.0 GByte overwritten (14756970 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
0 KByte corrupted (0 sectors)
8 KByte aliased memory (16 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x000000003c172c00
Expected: 0x000000003c172c00
Found: 0x000000003c170c00
H2testw version 1.3
Writing speed: 4.41 MByte/s
Reading speed: 6.44 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Now where is my soldering iron and wire so i can shove 240v up its arse

geester 30th Aug 2009 4:02 pm

I couldn't find my soldering iron but what i have managed to do is get it working again by setting the partition to 7208 with format tool which gave me 961.MByte of usable disk space so i now have a musical door stop

wdnshu 5th Sep 2009 7:50 am

I.ve found that Cryptomax Clean USB 1.0 removes memory hacks in Chinese MP4 players and Phoney Kingston usb sticks. For me it's the only one that worked out of all the recommended utilities on my Dell Inspiron 520 with Vista 32 bit

shafted_the_west 23rd Sep 2009 8:46 am

I tried following the guide at the beginning of this thread, but the software recommended (most recent version, MP3 Player Utilities 4.05), said it couldn't see the disk while plugged in! I tried running the firmware update program included but it stopped responding without doing anything at all (WinVista).

Right now I am muddling through by completely reformatting the disk, then loading up whatever I want all in one go, but can anyone help a complete numpty get this little chipod nano working properly?

Thank you

Myscha

Loathly 3rd Oct 2009 6:55 am

The tool says that it couldn't see the disk while plugged in, I even able to format and put songs in it. What's the problem?

shafted_the_west 3rd Oct 2009 8:27 am

The problem is that I cannot use the tool to remove the memory hack. As far as the tool software can tell, there is nothing plugged in that it can access.

My 8GB errors at 1.6GB and G not F(SD)shows as my main. Utilities freaks out !

Bought an 8GB but can load only 1.6 GB before errors start to occur. Also my G: drive is showing as my main and F: drive shows as the SD slot, the utilities program will not let me move the slider on the partition and encrypt tab. It also give me a "can not detect device" (possibly looking for F:) before going to G: drive. It also run really slow and slows down my PC. Is this a new tactic to make utilities unable to fix and show true drive volume. Running H2testw to see what it comes up with. I like the players software(sliding menus) i wish i could fix this thing. Any suggestions.............

Will this work with my player? Newbie to this so all help will be muchly appreciated. It says its 32 g but I keep getting a file format error when I try to put any music or video on it. Its supposed to be 32 g but only 3g of memory is used. Help!

ajrw 24th Oct 2009 6:26 am

What happens if the disk tool doesn't recognise the USB drive despite the fact that vista O/S does? I tried a few versions of disk tool and it makes no difference, A low format of the drive doesn't help either. Any other suggestions for alternate ways to remoe the hack?

Low level format

I got my 2 "Onda-like 32GB touchscreen" devices reset to the original 4GB working fine after formatting the devices using this tool:

HDDGURU: HDD Low Level Format Tool

It's a freeware low level formatting tool and as soon as I started it, automatically recognised the real size of the drive and formatted it to that size. I haven't had any further issues with them for a couple of days.

kilphaggs 19th Nov 2009 8:34 am

I found another tool to quickly and easily remove the memory hack:

Fake MP Player and How To Fix It – Niko’s Repair Of eBay Seller lovehuangfeifei2008 Fake MP Player FixFakeFlash Inspectortech

I followed the instrux. at the link, using a freeware tool called Check Flash 1.10. Just follow the directions carefully and don't click anything unless you are sure. I came very close to wiping out the Hard Drive of my PC by not paying attention. Lucky for me I stopped just in time.

My firmware version is LISONG DESIGN 9.5.54.
After all steps of this guide was done I received the player, which didn't see internal memory. It show 00Mb in the memory properties. I tried to format it using Windows, but I didn't achieve success :(
But I found solution:
I found solution:
First of all low format should be performed using HDD Low Level Format Tool, after that I did "Full format" using mp3 Player Disk Tool. As a result I received working player with 4Gb of memory (instead of hacked 8Gb).
But real size of my memory only 2Gb :(
So my player is alive now, but before it showed 8Gb, now it shows 4Gb and I'd like it show 2Gb :)

You need 4.18 version ;)

icekitsune 1st Dec 2009 6:30 am

Hello, I just installed the 4.18 version but half way through, this msg appeared.

C:/DOCUME~1/COMPAQ~/LOCALS~1/Temp/RAR$D189.000/MSI.CAB

i noticed that there was a file that says Msi.CAB but I'm not sure if i should do anything to it. I also tried Msien.msi and just setup.exe...

if it doesn't work, is there another program I can use?

I also downloaded the media player 10, direct x 9.0 and the codec bundle....Also, an another note, its a 16GB fake ipod nano..I want to see if the memory is real and i heard you can plug the ipod in, in My Computer, right click the plugged in ipod and do format. I'm not sure if it really works because the memory remained the same.

Corey497 9th Dec 2009 9:09 pm

Do not do this, bricked my player !!!

clicked format, diconnected and then got "unknow device"..

Just the same :( But I received it after using H2testW.
Moreover, after few attempts to connect it to PC it doesn't powerr off:(
I only can see "welcome" screen and after that player switching off.
Can I bring back to life this player?

sunchi 18th Dec 2009 12:17 am

I have another solution !
I have hacked 16 ipod like player

You need Gparted linux utility for exeample http://rip.7bf.de/current/
Burn .iso and boot from burned CD
Shouse x32bit kernel -start x skip keymap prompt
After you boot to GUI press right mouse button to get menu
choise Application - partition tools - Gparted
Find you player in the right corner
Delete all current partition
I create one partition of 2 Gb (1950 Kilobyte) if i create 2048 kb i get a "Disk Error " on the player
Now player works fine

This solution is VERY safe It only create smaller partiton

Country26 27th Dec 2009 1:29 am

Partition Slider can't be moved to the right?

szollgyi 31st Dec 2009 12:13 pm

disk error

I've read your message and thought hey that might be the solution to my mp4 player. it has the same symptoms, like some songs are played some are not...
i did what You have written (from step 1 to step 5) and found everything just the same as You have written. but at the end, when i put some files on the player, it said "disk error" in each cases (music, video, record...)
anyway it turned out to be a real 8 gb player...
what should i do? or try? any guesses?
thx a lot
gyongyi

szollgyi 31st Dec 2009 1:03 pm

i tried the following. after step 2 (moving the slidebar to the right) the player works as if it would be ok, but it only has a memory of 17mb. but when i move it back to the left it sais disk error. next i moved it to 8170-128 than to 8170-256 than to 8170-512 and 8150-1024 and it worked (i had 2 partitions: one with 1024 and the rest) but when i tried it more than 2 gb it said disk error again. this might be a hacked player, right?
can i leave the 2 partitions if it works in this way?

fueldragster 31st Jan 2010 3:05 am

Hello
Can anyone please suggest how best to proceed?
I've been suckered on a "32Gb" unit (presumed actual 2), fortunately I did not pay as much as some.
Previous experience with eBay and Paypal has shown that their dispute process is a sham so I would prefer to have a useable 2gb.
I have tried the rdiskutility - 'mp3 player disk manager' software but cannot carry out the action to "move slider to right" to increase the encrypted disk capacity.

The info I can provide is:
The device always shows 2 drives (xp x64 machine), the first drive letter "reports" 29.6 gb, the second zero.
The utility software only offers the first drive letter, capacity reported as 1682 mb
on the partition tab disk total capacity is reported as zero mb (which may provide a clue why the slider won't move)

Should I format it as zero in case it makes some change that then allows another format to 2gb?

Any other suggestions?

It is a real shame that these things are fraudulently described, as this version has a useable touchscreen, plays 320 x 240 video on a reasonably bright screen and (within the limitations of a minute lens size) takes acceptable stills and video.

Funt 2nd Feb 2010 1:32 am

Try mydisctest, I removed memory hack on few players in one click ;)
