[solved] brand new MP4 player can't see drive
Just got a new 2 gb MP4 player for the kid and I hook up USB windows explorer sees drive E removable but when I go to it (double click) it asks me to format, says it isn't formated.
The player came with some sample songs works fine and also the sample pics work fine???? FM radio works fine too. Windows media player doesn't even detect the MP4 player I tried going to the trubleshoting guide on this site but the page not available, any help???? Also please note I am a Dad 40 years old and this is the first MP4 player in the house, I know this thing should work just like a memory stick but???????????? Thanks for any help. |
pearlpurple,
Some things that may help. Try going to the players settings and select On-Line mode and make sure it is set to normal. then try connecting your player. Try connecting the player to a different USB Port. Quite oftern the USB cables that come with the player can be faulty if you can souece another try that. If all else fails try formating the player. You will lose all the files on it but the player is not much use if you can not access it to put more files on it. Just a warning but there are a flood of players on the market that have fake memory chips that are hacked so that they read as being much larger than their true size. These player are normally sold as 4GB and 8GB but a hacked 2GB player is not unheard of. If you are able to format the player in FAT format you will erase the hack and your memory chip will dispaly it's correct size which may be considerably smaller than the stated size. This may not be the case with your player but best you know of the possibility up front. If you have a problem formating the player in Fat, download MP3 Player Utilities here http://www.mympxplayer.org/amv-conve...-mb-df327.html Install it and then use the MP3 Disk Tool that comes with the utilities to do a low-level format on your player. If that does not work go to the Partition Encrypt tab of the MP3 Dosk Tool and move the slider all the way right and then back left and press start. This will rebuild the players partition and you should then have no more problems. Let us know how you go ..... |
Re: brand new MP4 player can't see drive
really appreciate the quick response and help,, so if the computor is asking me to format should I just go ahead and format?
If I click yes will I lose anything in that do I have to do anything or just format and start placing files on the player. What about the operating system on the player will the format affect that at all?? |
pearlpurple,
Formating the player is generally not a problem as the firmware is stored in a locked section of memory that can not be accessed. The only thing that will be deleted are the sample files on the player. Depending on what the problem is you may find that Windows will not be able to format the player. If this is the case you may have to try the Mp3 Disk tool options as descibed above. |
