Default 2GB MP4 player only has 974Mb capacity & cant play mp3s.

Hi, i'm new here. I have a problem with my mp4 & googled for it & wound up here.

I bought a 2GB Nano clone MP4 player off ebay recently.

I received the player & it only detected the drive as 1mb. So using the info from other posts from this forum I used the mp3 player format tool to encrypt & unencrypt the unit & managed to recover 974Mb of capacity.

So I'm concluding that my mp4 only has a 1Gb chip in it that has 974Mb of true formatted storage capacity. I accept that it only has this capacity.

My real problem is: the mp4 wont even play any mp3s i put in it! The unit turns on ok, menu items; games are accessible etc. I enter the music menu & it says there are no files detected & returns to the main menu. ATM as far as I know it is only working as a normal flash drive.....an expensive one at that!

It's not exactly a dead player, but would I have to extract & reflash the firmware? Do you guys think it would even fix the problem? Anyone else encountered this problem & have any other ideas for a fix?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

How about you post the name of the ebay seller so that I and other members can avoid buying fake nano's from them? I'm considering buying a 2gb nano from a hong kong seller on ebay and dont want to get burned!

mp4er , try extracting your existing firmware first, then repairing it. The guide is Here.

Next, re-flash the firmware back into your player. The guide is Here.

See if this procedure would help solve your problems.

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

T39 doesn''t sound as good as my T29
