Default "disk error" - asks to format

Have searched but cannot find similar problem. Bought MP3/4 for hubby for Xmas, loaded a few songs, working great. Tried to sync with Media Player 10, ops: now getting 'Disc Error' on player when I try to access sub menus, all except setup and radio menu. Player recognised by XP but asks to format, and will not open player. Have I killed it?
Firmware details:
MP3
LSD_9101_11
2006-10-27
9.0.48
2005-01-09

Bit reluctant to format incase I loose everything, as u will guess I am new to MP3, keep getting left behind by technology (happens when u get old)

Would appreciate any help offered out there.
btw great site, have learnt lots already.

Default Re: What have I done?

fishone , i'll suggest that you format your player.
But backup the files in the player before doing so, so that you can transfer them back after the format.
The guide to formating is Here.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

Thanks for the quick answer. Do you mean back up the mp3 files I have loaded on the player? I have these on my computer still and can reload easily. If you mean the files on the player, Windows is not allowing me to see them, showing the disc as full with zero bytes. I will have to wait until I get home tonite to do the format and will let u know how I go.
Sorry for being such a dummy, am learning fast
