PC wont recognise it
Sorry for asking for help again so soon. For me, it seems to be either one thing wrong or another.
Now my PC wont recognise my MP4 player when I plug it in. When I try to open it manually I get a message saying something like; "The disk in F is not formatted do you want to format it now?" What should I do? I actually tried formatting it... which did nothing anyway, since everything I had on my player before is still there. Sorry for being a pain! Everything just seems to be going wrong. ^_^' |
Puffs-chan, Thats alright these things sometimes happen. Try "lattesurfs" excellent guide here:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html This should fix the problem if you are having problems formatting. |
Re: PC wont recognise it
That worked! Thanks again.
I have one problem though... since I couldn't open it up before, I have no back up of the original files that were on it. Is there anyway I can get them? |
Puffs-chan, If you had important files on the player you may be able to recover them with some sort of a file recovery program provided you do not write any new files to the player before trying. The other thing you should do is make a backup copy of your players firmware in case you have any problems with your player that require a re-install.
You can download the backup tool here: http://www.mympxplayer.org/s1fwx-31-df417.html And there is a guide to using it in the Knowledge Base here: http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-ex...tool-vt66.html If you get a chance it would be great if you could upload your firmware to site as it may also help someone having problems. You can upload it here: http://www.mympxplayer.org/dload.php...load&cat_id=18 Try to include as much information on your player and the firmware version. |
Re: PC wont recognise it
I only just got this Mp4 player, so I'm not really familiar with what firmware is... This all all pretty confusing for me.
In the second part of the guide for modifying the "firmware" tells me to download "S1res" but when I try to download it, it gives me a broken link. |
Puffs-chan, The firmware is like Windows is to your PC, it is the operating software of your player. You may find a newer link for s1res in the Downloads>Tools section. s1res is a theming tool if you want to change the look of the user interface but you may want to become a little more familiar with your player before trying this.
At this stage I would suggest just backing up your firmware in case of any problems. Get to know your player and it's features, then you may like to make some small modifications to your firmware like changing the battery icon or boot and shutdown animations. Have a look through the Download>Themes section and you will see some of the themes that members have created for their players. Most important have fun and enjoy your player :) |
Re: PC wont recognise it
I'm really looking forward to customising it... I just need to get everything working first.
In s2res when I try to open the dump file I get a message saying "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format" I'm not sure what I did wrong. |
Puffs-chan, Have a look in the Settings menu on your player under Firmware version what is listed?

9.0.48 2006/11/09 ACT2093_S75_SZG Is what it says. |
Puffs-chan, there are no tools for backing up or theming the 9.0.48 firmware at present so you will just have to use it as is until they become available.

Re: PC wont recognise it
Ah, that sucks. I don't suppose any other versions of firmware will work on it?
Thanks for the help and I hope someone uploads some firmware that's compatible with mine soon. |
Puffs-chan
Do not try to load any other firmware to you player it will kill it and there is no way of recovering it. |
Re: PC wont recognise it
Eek! Okay! Question; if I bought a cheap MP4 player from ebay of the same model, would I be able to take the firmware from that and put it on mine?
I've been looking around and I'm seeing a few people with the same model as me who have the same problem. If it works, I'd be glad to upload the firmware from it. I hope I can fix it, I really don't want to tell my mum that I messed it up already. *idiot* |
Puffs-chan, Have you bricked it already? :(
Taking the firmware will from another player will not help. Firmware is very specific to the players hardware components. Even if you got hold of another 9.0.48 firmware there is little chance it would work with your player. Some people spend months trying to find the right firmware. |
Re: PC wont recognise it
Ah, nonononono. I didn't put any other firmware on it. Sorry if I confused you.
My player still works when i'm using voice recording and listening to the radio and other things like that... I just can't upload music or anything on it. That's because I deleted my firmware, right? Ah, well. Hopefully some firmware will pop up that I can use. Untill then I can just use it as a portable radio and voice recorder. (I'm an optimist, damn it :D ) |
Puffs-chan, Your firmware should be fine formating the player will not do anything to your firmware. Why can't you put any music on it ??
