Default Disk Error ?

I recently turned 21 and my boyfriend got me the fake pod mv0blk1024mp042. It worked great the first night I had it. I uploaded songs and rocked up. This morning I woke up and the fake pod didn't have a charge. i've tried charging it on several differnt outlets, and have had it plugged into the computer since. It still will not hold a charge. I was however, able to still listen to music with it plugged in. Until about an hour ago. It said Disk Error! and will only let me access Setup and FM Station.

I saw another topic about the same thing but I'm just not sure of what I need to do. The answer to the other topic was the firmware update, which I'm going to attempt when I get home from work tonight.

My firmware is currently:

Act2097_S72_1
2006/04/25
9.0.49
2006/10/20

I really don't know anything about mp3 players and am hoping that a firmware update will work.

Also the fake pod will not say on for more than 30 seconds even plugged into the usb port.

When I remove it from the USB port the hour glass starts to flash and won't stop until i turn it off

sometimes it wont turn on, i'm wondering if this is because it wont hold charge. How do i get it to hold a charge?

I read thru my user guide and it was all broken english, I couldn't understand what I needed to do.

Please help me, my boyfriend ment well and I don't want to spoil his birthday present to me.

peachpie85, Do not try to update the firmware there is pretty much a 100% chance you will kill your player.
The problem sound to me more like the battery is dead. You can either send the player back for replacement if it has any warrenty or solder in a new battery.
Replacement batteries can be found on ebay and as long as you can find one that will fit in your player it is possible to use ipod replacement batteries as well which are easy enough to come by.

Regarding disk error messages, can you enter the player in Explorer when it is connected to your PC or does it say that it needs to be formatted?

If so you can try to format it with Windows by right clicking on the player icon in Explorer and choose format.

I can't do it here at work because my computer has all kinds of weird restrictions and won't let me access the USB port files.

I wasn't sure about the battery thing, this thing doesn't seem to come apart, there arnt any screws or anything like that.

So when i connected the fake pod with the usb port to my laptop it asks me what to open it as, your suggesting I open it in internet explorer?

peachpie85, No Explorer not Internet Explorer. Access it via My Computer. When you connect it to your PC it should show as a removable disk or device.
If it has no external screws it will then have snap lock connectors so you will have to use the broad edge of a sharp knife to gently wedge the player open.

peachpie85, The fact that your player works fine when connected to USB and drawing power from your PC but does not when disconnected is a sign of battery failure.
The hour glass flashing is the player trying to boot detecting low power and shutting down then trying to boot again etc.
This may have caused corruption of the file system on your player which is why you may be getting disk error messages. The player is trying to access the memory and because of the corruption it can not.
