Cant extract firmware
Hey, got my 1st MP4 player for a Christmas gift, but have a couple of probe with it.
It's a 2GB + 1GB SD card from eBaY and I am trying to extract the firmware so I can identify it. According to the "about" in the player menu it says: Ver: 00.02.0001 Date:2006-10-18 FlashMem:1985/2008MB CardMem: 960/960MB Now, Windows XP will detect it as two USB drives (internal Flash & SD card), but I can't use any of the firmware extraction tools. If I scan for devices nothing is found and the second time the device disconnects exactly like when you stop the device. I would appreciate any help. |
zetski210, What are you using to try and extract the firmware?

Re: Cant extract firmware
I've tried s1fwx (3.1 and 2.something) and atjupload.
edit: I just tried the Sigmatel identifier, it found the two drives, but said that they weren't Sigmatel devices. |
zetski210, Ok those tools are for Action Chipset players, not 100% but from the info you posted I would guess you may have a Rockchip player. What video format does your player use?

Re: Cant extract firmware
Yes, Rockchip is what is displayed by Windows when I first plugged it in and Sigmatel program also identified Rockchip.
With the video, it will not recognise AMV or WMV file types, only AVI. I used GSpot and examined the .avi file the player came with and it said it was the Xvid codec. I converted using WinAvi and Xvid codec, but the player says "file format error". |
Re: Cant extract firmware
Just did a small search and found this thread:
AVI on Rockchip Downloading the video converter solved my AVI issues, but I'd still like to be able to connect and upgrade/fiddle with the firmware. But satisfied for now... |
zetski210, I doubt if there are any apps yet for extracting or modding rockchip firmware although I have come across acouple of firmware upgrade tools on some Chinese sites. I have not uploaded then because we already have enough dead Action chipset players that can't be recovered with otu adding Rockchip players to the list.

Re: Cant extract firmware
tadad1,
Yeah, I've spent most of my spare time today searching around for RockChip info and it seems that they are new players in the MP3, MP3.5 market. This could be the reason for the lack of firmware tools. I posted a pic of my player in the sticky forum and I'll open a new topic reviewing it. Thanks for all your help. |
Re: Cant extract firmware
Hey guys, if by luck you came across website with firmware to be downloaded for Rochchip player, please let me know.
I have stupidly brick my player by trying to upgrade with a Ramos RM100 firmware (exactly the same look than my player) and now i'm lurking around to find various FW to test on my player. Maybe I will be lucky enough to find one that will bring my player to life! Thanks in advance, Eric |
