alright.. the other thing I want to know is that.. Do these MP4 players have all the features that an iPod nano has..? like play lists, shuffle the songs.etc..?

For Action and Sigmatel chipset players.

You can only do one task at a time, so you can not listen to music and browse photos or play games at the same time.


File browsing is not possible in all firmware. You can select a folder you want to play but only on some players can you select a particular track.

No playlist support

You can random play songs but only by folder, If you have 3 folders of music they will not randomly play from all folders only the folder you select to play.

Despite the fact that they are called MP4 Players they do not play the MP4 format all video needs to be converted to .amv or .smv depending on the players chipset.

The newer rockchip players support multi tasking and .avi video but you still need to convert to specific frame rate, size, format, etc.

Thanks alot for the info tadad1, it seems to me that these MP4 players really do have lots of limitations. I was going through the newspaper this morning, and saw another ad about these MP4 players,
1 GB MP4 PLAYER FOR $54 CDN
2 GB MP4 PLAYER FOR $73 CDN.

I really want a good shuffler,, because when I am studying I don't want to listen to the songs in the same order... a mix of everything from my music player would be awesome.
So do u think its worth buying 2GB of this MP4 player or a 1GB iPod shuffle nano whcih is about $70 CDN these days cuz of christmas.. Which one would you buy?

N3o , if you had a slightly more flexible budget, i'll suggest a Teclast player.
The 1GB model goes for US$75, and it plays .avi videos, music files, etc. Also, it is able to multitask. Only it does not have a playlist, but is able to browse by the files (which the nano-clones don't support).

N3o, On my 2GB players I have 1 music folder, on my PC I have around 6,000 mp3. Every day I connect my player and and use a program called Flash Shuffler, I have it set to delete all the files in the Music folder of my player then randomly select 1024MB of music files from my PC and copy them to my player. This gives me about 250 random MP3's in one folder. This suits me because obviously I like all the music I have and it gives me about 10-11 hours of mixed music.
The other gig of space will hold 3 or 4 full length movies that I can watch on a 1.8 inch screen. I can connect it to any PC and move files to and from it without frigging around with iTunes crap.
So the chiPod suits me better than the iPod.
Although I like the nano clone I have I prefer the non nano players firstly because they use a standard 3.5mm earphone socket where the clones use a 2.5mm so you have to get a 2.5-3.5 adapter to use some quality earphones and I recommend you upgrade the earphones.

Also non nano players generally have more battery space. The standard chiPod nano battery around 230mAh gives anything from 4-6 hours continuous music play, this player HERE I upgraded the battery with an ipod mini replacement 600mAh and it now gives me 12-13 hours continuous music play. I did have to remove the tiny internal speaker but I never used it anyway.

This player HERE I updated with a 850mAh 3rd gen iPod replacement battery and it now returns over 18 hours of continuous music play, once again I ditched the speaker.

The short answer to your question, I would buy a 2GB Chinese MP4 before a 1GB iPod any day preferably a non nano clone.

N3o, Well with 9.0.48 firmware it is running one of the newer chipsets that seem to be a little more powerful and quicker. They also support USB 2.0 (HS) data transfer so it is twice as quick to load files to.
A word of warning do not try to upgrade the firmware as there is practically no chance of recovering a dead 9.0.48 player at the moment.
If you can get some pictures up and a bit of a review it would be great.

except, right under the screen it says, "COOL VIEW".

It has more features then I was expecting, it can play random songs from a specific folder, repeat certain songs, folders, etc, Intro, (PLays 10 seconds of all songs in a specific folder) lyrics work perfectly fine too. FM radio, Phone book, pictures, few games that I don't know how to play yet :( Movies.. and I can also make a partition, and then put a password on one partition to save my "secrets". lol thats they word that they used in the manual. :lol:

Unfortunately, no multi-tasking:( as u mentioned earlier.

N3o, Despite certain limitations thay still have a lot of good features for the price.
