Default File Corrupted - Rip off or bad sectors?

Hi,

1. I bought an OLED MP3 Player back in June from Ebay seller Emarket888. The player had a 512 MB memory capacity [it showed 497 MB free when I connected it to the PC] I am recently having problems with some files playing such as Linkin Parks songs and Red Hot Chilli peppers. The player says that File is Corrupted [ffor Linkin] and simply restarts while playing the Chilis. To check if the player is hacked or not I filled it up to its full capacity and then played the last few files that played perfectly. Also when I store my data I can access my data as well.

What could be the problem?

2. Also recently I bought a 1GB MP4 player from Ebay seller Etectonic BEFORE I found your forum. It has already been shipped and I can't do anything about it. Has anybody heard about this seller? This is supposed to be a gift....

Here is the link to check the page :-
http://cgi.ebay.com/i-Platinum-1GB-M...em160060361196

It says iPlatinum but I haven't heard about iPlatinum, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for you help in advance.

geekwrestler, The easiest way to tell if your player is hacked is with the MP3 Disk Tool

I doubt it is hacked but if it does have any sector problems a Low-Level for mat withthe Disk Tool may help.

I don't know much about the iPlatinum.. With these chinese sellers they like to change the names to attract new customers.. It is most likely the same as every other ipod clone out there.. which is fine as long as they do what they are supposed to do... I did a quick scan of the seller though,, and he isn't exactly 'Highly recommended'!! 97% may seem a good ratio,, but IMO it is one to be wary of. The lack of replies to emails and the apparent failure to rectify faulty items is a bit worrying.
The usual rules apply with players.. try it out before you give it as a present.. It may seem a bit 'wrong', but better safe than sorry.

Tadad: I did Lattesurf's steps to verify the REAL space on my MP3 player. Looks like they conned me for 1MB. The memory capacity earlier showed 497MB and now shows 496MB. I really did get a better deal than most people here. I probably think the Linkin Parks & Chilis songs need to be in a different format. I was using them in WMAs earlier but then converted them to MP3 and now they refuse to play. Probably should try WMA shouldn't I? Thanks for the help. I'm surely gonna donate to this wonderful website and now I found at least one seller I could trust on eBay a bit - emarket888 Thanks.

Dave:
Yeah probably he could have changed the name. I won't know until I get the player I guess. He's slow on emailing like my old seller emarket888. Hopefully the product will be good like my earlier one. I have to give it to my brother so he won't mind it if I check it out a bit. I read some feedback too and yes most people leave feedback just as they get the item, while many others aren't even aware of "Hacked memory". At least I found MyMPxPlayer.org Thanks. I'll keep you posted on the player.

Sorry for the late reply, I had to wait 59 minutes before downloading from Rapidshare.de, which didn't support a pause so I had to google for MP3 Utilities and found one on brothersoft. I'm on dialup so it took a while to download.

Thanks guys, I've begun to love my MP3 Player anew! [If the MP4 turns out to be good, I'm getting one for myself and will use this one as a Linux live bootdisk. ]

Thanks again!
