fake 2gb player?
Hi everyone. I have a little prob that I hope someone could help me on. I recently bought an 2gb player from colordrives on ebay. Tried it out but only 497mb would work on it. So I thought hacked and tried the de-hacking steps and it still showed the same amount of memory. And still does the same thing when loading. Any ideas?

seoultec, Does the player read as 2GB in Windows?
What happens when you try to use more than 497MB? Have you checked the chip serial number? |
Re: fake 2gb player?
Thank you for replying. In windows it does read it as 2gb as well in the system memory of the player. And when I was doing the de-hack method it read the same amount in the format tab and the partition tab. And after I tried to de-hack and format, it still reads the same 2gb. If I load more the 497mb, it will only read the new files I put on it and all the old files somehow say format error, even though it was working just fine before I loaded the new file. I have not been able to check the serial number for this was a christmas present to my girl but I might have to open it up to see. Is there anything I should be careful on when opening the player, or just unscrew and look?

seoultec, Well if you have done all that it certainly does not sound like a hacked chip but to be honest I have not come across this problem before. Opening the player if it has screws is not dificult but there may be a label or QC sticker on the Memory chip that you may need to carefully remove.
If you go into Settings on the player and select On-Line Mode set it to Multi Drive then turn the player off then back on. Connect it to your PC when it appears in Explorer does it appear as 1 or 2 drives? |
Re: fake 2gb player?
In the multidrive mode it shows only one drive.

seoultec , when you formatted using the Disk Tool, did you ensure that the slider in the Partition & Encrypt tab is slide all the way to the left?

Re: fake 2gb player?
Sorry it took so long to reply. Wanna Wish Everybody a late Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Now back to the post. When I did the de-hack, I slid the bar all the way to the right. Then after I got the 2drives, I slid it all the way to the left and got one drive again. I couldn't use the disk tool to format the player so I used windows format. Would that have made a diff? Oh and I was wondering how many drives am I supposed to have when I put the player on multi drive?
|
seoultec , the normal Windows Format might not be able to remove the hack (ie right click on the drive itself). Unless you are using the Windows Disk Managment or MP3 Utilities Disk Tool.
When on multi-drive, if your player has encrypted memory, it'll display 2 drives. Which indicates that the slider was not at the extreme left when formatted. |
1. yes i think thats what has made the difference. please do the de-hacking method using the mp4 disk tool.
2. you are supposed to get two drives using multi-drive. |
