Default MP3/4 Nano clone cannot detect removable disk

I purchased this player as a gift fromEbay, and after installing the driver, plugged in my player whilst it was on and tried to launch mp3 utilities 3.57. I am getting a message which says 'not detecting removable disk, and nor is a removable disk icon visible in 'my computer' I thought the usb cable might be faulty at first, but having replaced it to no avail and reinstalled the driver I am completely lost and would appreciate any advice.

mercuryrealm , are you running off Windows98? Besides 98, the other later versions of Windows do not need driver support. Just plug it in and it'll detect your player as a removeable drive.

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

T39 doesn''t sound as good as my T29

I am using '98-do I need to change something in my settings to make a removeable driver detectable?
