chuck22 , the basic firmware versions available are the 3.5.35 and 3.5.37. So if your firmware version contains these combination of numbers, it is the Actions based player.

Regarding the memory, since it's an Actions based player, it'll only support max 2GB of memory. Anything above that is hacked and a format is highly recommended, as it will only cause alot of problems in future. The guide is http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html

Ensure that the on/off switch button is at the on position to be able to charge or turn on.
Does it turn on only when connected to the computer?

Uxcell are the sponsers of this forum and their players seem to be quite legit. So yes i'll recommend them if you need to buy new players.

chuck22 , ok. To determine your current problem, you need to answer the following questions:

1. When you plug the player into the computer USB, does the player appear as a removeable drive in My Computer? If yes, are you able to access the files in there?

2. Using the MP3 Utilities Upgrade Tool (included in the cd or download from the forum) and your player connected to the computer. Does the Upgrade Tool detect your player? Do not upgrade any firmware at this point yet.

chuck22 , according to what you have described, i would likely think that there is some hardware failure.

Plugging into the USB to charge the player would usually only get the player none to slightly warm after sometime, not hot. and since you have not done any firmware upgrades, the player should at least get detected by the computer.

Probably what i can suggest is to contact the seller for an exchange or refund.

chuck22 , if you had followed the guide on formatting using the Disk Tools, and ended up with 233MB. i would suspect that your original memory chip is only a 256MB.
To verify further, you need to open the player and check the memory chip's serial number against the manufacturer.
Likely all the players would be hacked, so run the Disk Tool on all of them.

You might want to get a full refund from your seller as the drop in capacity is too much. How did you pay for your items? If it was via paypal, you can start a dispute in paypal. This will force them to reply to you.
