Keep losing music files each time I turn off player.

I just got my MP4 player a few days ago. I have tried various times to load songs on, which seems to work okay, but then the next day when I turn on the player to listen all the files are gone! I haven't been turning it off by the switch, I have been using the play button to turn it off and on...could this have something to do with it? It is frustrating because I take the time to make the folders and put the music files in them, but once I disconnect from the computer and try using it the next day they're gone. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!!! It also seems to take a very long time to turn on...with the hour glass being on the screen..is this normal?

A very simple tip, yet it may help you. Have you tried formatting your player first? From what I've read, it may be that your mp3 came hacked to show a fake storage capacity, thus inducing to errors when you try to do something with those files. See the download section, get the mp3 player tools, and give it a format. In one of the help sections you have a link explaining the process very well.

Yes, I have tried formatting it just by right clicking, and then today I actually downloaded the MP3 player disk tool and used that to format. I am hoping that will help, but I won't know until I go home tonight and try loading all the files back on. I am really disappointed in the player that I have bought. I wish I would have just splurged the extra money to get an Apple ipod nano.

I hope that works. BTW, I wouldn't regret at all my purchase if the storage advertised was right. The only thing I miss are some more GB (4 to 8 would be great).
- If you want something cheap, simple, that you can carry on everywhere (when doing exercise, study, travel, etc.) and not regret if it falls or gets dirty, then a chipod works fine (my case).
- If you don't mind to pay a lot and want something with after sales service, safer, more sophisticated and perhaps durable mp3 then go with the nano.

Re: Keep losing music files each time I turn off player.

The firmware version is 4.0.98. It's a 2 GB nano knockoff that I got off of ebay. I couldn't understand the user manual what so ever, but found one on here to help me out. The CD doesn't seem to work that came with it. I can load the files and play them, but it seems like if the player is off for a while, that when I turn it back on everything is gone. Yesterday I put files on at work, and when I got home they weren't there...and then last night I put a ton of files on which worked, but then this morning they were gone!! I really just want to use it for music for when I travel and workout. Also, should I be using the on/off button to turn it off, or is it okay when it powers off itself?

Leave the on/off button to on always! Shut it down/start it up by holding play

Thank you...I will make sure to leave it on. I guess the test will be tonight when I put all the songs back on, then try again tomorrow to use it! On a side note...have any of you used an FM transmitter with your player? I want to use it in the car and don't have a tape deck. Thanks!

hi, Que, that shouldnt be the case, the flashchip will hold the data for years (theoreticly) with no power going to the flash, hallgirl, try what que says it might just be the case, if not get a refund i wouldnt bother buying another frm the same person more than likely all of em will be dodgy. about the fm transmitter

as mentioned abobe by E72! - see if formatting works for you.

i dont think its gotta do anything with turning the player on/off using the other button.

another problem maybe that you are not giving sufficient time for the songs to be loaded onto your player and disconnect the usb cable fast.

or maybe you are creating way too many folders than the player supports.
