MP4 Player Firmware Backup
Hello,
I bought a 1Gb MP4 Player and i after reading your forum i decided to make a backup of my players Firmware. The player is correctly detected by Windows and I am able to transfer music and videos (mtv format) to it. However the player is not detected by any of the firmware tools I downloaded. I tried with S1FWX v3.1 and with RdiskUpdate v.1.0.0.1 with no success. None of them detects the player. I read also your Dead Player Guide and my player is exactly the same (outside and inside) as the pictures of the player there (except not dead :) ) Can you please advise me what to do? Thanks, Bestondoa |
bestondoa, If you enter the players settings menu what information is listed under "Firmware version"?
|
Hi tadad1,
Thanks for the reply. In System info it says: FW: 02.03.00.06 CHIP: 08 Hope it helps |
bestondoa , it seems that your player is running off a rockchip (or is it a sunplus). Either one, the S1fwx does not support your chipset, that's why you can't extract it.
So if you player is currently working properly, i'll suggest not doing anything to the firmware. |
Hi lattesurf,
Yes, it is working properly :) . Some minor bugs, but nothing special. I was more inclined to changing the images. Thats why i wanted to make a backup before proceding. Do you know if it is possible to change images in this types of players? |
bestondoa , i'm not very sure of the rockchip or sunplus players, and there isin't much tools for them either.
Perhaps you could wait for tadad1's reply on theming these types of players. |
bestondoa, The themeing tools only work on Action chipset players, to the best of my knowledge there are none available for Sunplus, Sigmatel or Rockchip players :(
|
Thank you both :)
I guess I'll have to stick with this images... and its spelling errors :) BTW, what are the main differences between Action chips and Rokchip chips (besides the tools available :) ) Thanks |
bestondoa, basically the video format, Action chips use .amv and Rockchips .avi.
The Rockchip also supports larger screen sizes, and multi tasking which lets you use some of the other features like games or picture viewing whilst listening to music. Have not used a Rockchip player but those that have them report that they are a great improvement over the Action players. |
Thanks for all the info!
Next step is to open the player to make sure what chipset it has. :) |
bestondoa,
No need to open your player. What video format does your player use? If you go to your players Settings menu there should be an entry for Firmware Version, what information is shown? |
Hi tadad1,
Well, I just saw now your post, after opening the player :) I had tried EasyChips in order to identify it but with no sucess. Anyway the player is ALi M5661C based with Samsung memory. In System info it says: FW: 02.03.00.06 CHIP: 08 Is the ALi chip good? From what I read its only used in 1 commercial player, which is the Sony CE-P. |
Re: MP4 Player Firmware Backup
Bestondoa,
I am not shure if yours is a rockchip machine. I hope it is, as this machine is wonderful. I do buy it due to an incredible luck in about US$ 100, as the seller ignore completely what kind of chip it has. Mine is recognize by XP writing the following text "RockChip USB MP3 USB Device" and "RockChip USB SD USB Device" in Device Manager. According with the characteristic is a rockchip as play xvid AVI without conversions. The only info shown in System is Ver: 00.00.0008 Date: 2006.12.04 I hope the upload of the pic and the features has work well, for you to compare yours with mine. I buy it due to its large screen (2.2) and ability to play AVI movies and the mini SD slot. |
I have firmware for MP4 player based on ALI M5661 chip. But, I'm not sure that mine is like yours. Check it at www.e-fortuna.com

I have am MP4 player and I cant seem to get the firmware to do anything for editing. I tried the dump program but all I get its this:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- scan for devices... detected drives: <k> <a>..<z> select device <.> scan for devices <?> display help <~> exit program $. scan for devices... detected drives: <k> $k connect to device 'K:\'... init device... set device to f-mode... get info from device... ic version = 0x0000 storage info = 0x0602, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000 device = 'S1 Mp3 Player' manufacturer = 'Wilson Co. Ltd.' bootflash type = 'F285' brom version = 3.0.80 firmware version = 9.0.48 read boot record... detect firmware size... error: The system cannot read from the specified device. disconnect from device... Press any key to continue . . . What gives? I just want to change a few pictures in it and maybe tweak it a little. What program would get me in there. Also I bought it as a 4G but knew it only had 1 so I threatened the seller with bad feedback and got 1/2 my noney back! I only paid 9 bucks US plus 12 for shipping...$21 US aint bad, delivered. |
