potterfan6, There is no way to return it to 4GB. Your player had a hacked memory chip. In order to make more money the manufacturer has installed a 1GB chip that has been programmed to read falsely as 4GB, when you altered the Partiton table with the Partition Encrypt setting you removed the hack and now you r chip is reading its true size of 1GB.
If your Father bought the player for you then he has been mislead by the seller and should seek a refund.

If you have been ripped off with a hacked player by a seller submit a report to www.ic3.gov

potterfan, i can understand your problem.

why dont you try to seek a refund. if you are afraid that your dad will scold you then :

1. you can try converting mp3 to wma using the tool available in the download section. this will save about 50% of the space on your player and will make your player look as if it can store a lot in front of your dad.

2. you can also try converting amvs in low/medium quality.

Potterfan let your dad read this topic. He will understand it is not your fault, but of the manufacturer or seller or both, because they scammed your father in buying a hacked player, like they did with thousends of others. He should complain at the seller, ebay and paypal (if used) to get a partial or full refund.

Potterfan6 - we're really telling the truth when we say that it wasn't 4gb. The person who sold you the player just wanted to make it look like it so he hacked the chip to make it seem like there was more memory than there really was. You did the right thing when you revealed the true size. Tell your dad that what we're saying is true and that it's not your fault. But you won't be able to get it back to 4gb because the 4 gigabytes were never there.

Potterfan do you have a link to the seller or the player? Unless it is a brand like Meizu or Teclast you probably never had real 4 gigabytes, but a hacked partition table that shows what the hacker wanted it to show. There are no Ipod look-a-likes with 4 gigabyte yet.

Yeah you did, but did you make every single file play? It copies files over files, that's the trick, to make you believe that you really put 4 gigs on it, but all you did was overwriting excisting files and building a false partition table and file index.
Why did you format it? Do you have a link to the player or the seller or both. Can you answer the questions earlier asked about brand?

potterfan6 , i would suggest that you open up the player and check the memory chip's serial number against the manufacturer's website (samsung or hynix).

The serial number would contain the numbers either K9*8G08*** (samsung) or HY27**088G** (Hynix).

As Que mentioned, have you tried playing all the files stored above 1GB? In a hacked memory architecture, you can store the files in, but it is only the filename that would appear. The file data is not physically in the chip itself.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.
