lior , i don't have any idea what your diskonkey would be like.

I'll suggest that you contact your seller and get the required formatting tool.

It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

jctoad , the method mentioned in the thread link was the same i advised lior to do, but seems like it still could not format.

Does anyone know what a diskonkey is?

A fancy name for an usb memory stick, disk-on-key, used by Intuix. I got one a couple of weeks ago from someone that wanted me to search drivers for it for her win98 install. The HP format tool worked okay with it on win2000 and winXP.
LIOR, maybe Partition Magic (a program) can fix it, download some trial or full, and give that a go. It can do things windows refuses to do.

lattesurf, When lior first started talking about the problem in another thread, I didn't know what Diskonkey was either. I was surprised to find out that it made PC World's The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years list at #9. However, I don't think their list was perfect, but it was interesting to read.

I also had suggested the HP tool. The Killdisk might be worth a try. If you go through page after page of that thread I posted a link to and nothing works, lior may just have to face the fact that it is broken.

Ok, a little researching on the net tells me that the DiskOnKey is a portable "harddrive". So this probably explains why lior is able to play videos from the computer, but fails to play from the DiskOnKey due to codec.

But since it works like a "harddrive", it is puzzling why windows disk management does not work.

Definitely try Que's suggestion of Partition Magic. Great software, might just solve your problem.

I don't think that it is actually a hard drive. They just called it that probably because the term flash drive hadn't been coined yet.

From diskonkey.com :

What utilities can I use to low-level format my DiskOnKey?

Most utilities on the market can be used with DiskOnKey. Make sure to review the software utility user manuals for complete instructions and capabilities.
I have problems getting Partition Magic to see usb drives, so I didn't suggest it.

Look at http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtrouble_e.html the last section "Format an USB drive"

I think I suggested in the other thread to try fdisk. Boot to a Win98 startup disk. Then you can run fdisk.
If you can get DOS to see the diskonkey, it might work.
