Default PC - Player transfer speed

Hello All

During my recent trip to China, i have purchased something called TMS B209 Digital Media Player. You can find the manufacturers description here:TMS B209 description

It has 1 GB internal memory, plus a SD card reader (I've put in a 2GB card as well).

I used the CheckUDisk to see what's inside, and the results are:

Name: ROCK MP3 (USB2.0)

Logic Driver: F:\

VID&PID: Vid_071b&Pid_3203
Speed: high speed

VendorID: RockChip
ProductID: USB MP3
Product Revision: 1.00

Vendor Description: RockChip
Product Description: ROCK MP3
Serial Number: USBV1.00

Also it runs the ver. 00.00.0015 firmware dated on 2006-12-12

Most of its functions seem to run fine (which was a suprise to me) but...
It takes ages to upload the music - it took me 3 minutes to upload 60 Mb.

I cannot accept the fact that this is normal, but, since this is my first player, I would like to know your opinions

Thanks

I too have a rockchip player and it took 15sec to transfer 60mb file from the player to the computer and 1min to transfer it back to the player. You should try another usb port and/or cable. Congrats on your new AVI player, you'll be much happier with its quality over the AMV players. Plus the mini disk option is way cool!

Roodytom , seems like the transfer speed is on a USB1.1, as your transfer speed calculated out to be around 2mbit/sec.

Are you connecting your player via a USB hub? Try connecting directly to your computer instead. Also, connect it directly to the USB ports on the motherboard, rather than via PCI add-on USB cards.

Latte

"it took me 3 minutes to upload 60 Mb."

Thats 333kbps

@2Mgb per sec and 3 minutes (180secs) according to your math that should have been 360Mgb transfered in his 3 min timeframe...Want to borrow my calculator...LOL

avionik99 , maybe i mistook the 60Mb as MegaByte. But nobody refer to files stored on a computer in bits.

"i transfered a 60 Megabit file in 3 minutes", technically is correct, but nobody uses bits to refer to filesize. Even Windows does not report a file in bits, but in Bytes.

I get your point, so if Roodytom was refering to Megabits, you're spot on.

Arrgh!!!

I forgot everything is case sensitive these days

Anyway, I was refering to a 60 MB file (as in megabytes) and I am connecting the player directly to my half-year old notebook (USB 2.0 ports only), so you see my problem.
I also tried pluging in to a USB 1.1 port in my friends PC, and upon installing his Windows XP did not send the info, that the player is a Hi Speed USB device.
I tried to do some research, and it seems that all the players using the RockChips2606A chipset are USB 2.0 compatible.

So, It got me thinking that maybe a firmware reinstall could do the trick...

But then again, I read on some Linux forums that some 'unexplainable' problems were noticed when people connect the RockChips to a Centrino Duo based machine (although, I am not using Linux)

What do you think?

It says Serial Number: USBV1.00. If they mean USB version 1.00 then transfer is limited to 1.5 mbit max., that's about 190 kbytes per second, with error checking about 6 seconds per mbyte. 60 mbytes x 6 seconds =360 seconds = 6 minutes. Bingo! Now we need to know if the usb controller is in the rockchip itself (firmware could fix it if it is capable of 2.0 for real) or in an implemented old version usb controller chip on the player's board.

So what do I do now?

As I understand, I cannot dump the firmware, as the soft for Rockchips is not ready yet.
I am not so keen on opening the player, as I intend to go back to China within half a year, and maybe will try claim it under warranty (that will be an interesting expierence. I don't have to mention that the manufacturers mailbox is dead silent, do I?

Does it mean that for now, all I can do is go and grab a snack everytime i upload something to my player?

Any other suggestions will be more than welcome

Roodytom , pretty much so, if you connected the player to a Hi-Speed USB port and still end up with USB1.0 or 1.1, then looks like all you could do is just wait for it to transfer, and as well grab a beer.

This is getting even better now.

I downloaded the Consumer Setup 2.40 tool from the download section, (the disc supplied with the player has 2.60 version, but the file is corrupt of course....) and, upon connecting player, the software...did not detect any RockChips devices!!! It does however recognize the firware file also included on the disc (the 0.0.15 i am using currently)...

I am really puzzled and begin to think, that something might be reallly wrong here....

???

thanks in advance
Tom
