Charging problem with MP4 player
I went to charge my nano-clone mp4 player, and as soon as I plugged it in, it charged one cycle, then was full. :o I've noticed I'm not getting a lot of life out of my battery, and I think it's because my battery isn't charging all the way up.
Has this happen to any of you all? |
in my opinion, it is due to a problem in your battery.
but before jumping to conclusions, i would suggest you to first try charging through the computer as well both direct through the usb port and with the cable. if the problem persists, try changing both or either the ac adapter or usb cable. and if nothing works, like i said, its most probably something to do with the battery. |
Re: Charging problem with MP4 player
I also have a charging problem with my battery. It doesn't charge all the way using either the computer usb or power outlet.
The player heats up when trying to charge and it heats when I charge using both methods. I bought the player from Sky_Tower on ebay.com.au last year and all communication with this seller has been ignored so far. I have tried looking for replacement battery to buy but can only find ebay site with pay pal only and I dont have a credit card. Plus it might be the charger or the usb cable. Does anyone know if sky tower are schammers, has anyone had any dealings with them. I don't know if my player was hacked is suppose to be 4gb. thanks |
as far as the charging problems are concerned, if you cant buy a battery then you can always try changing the usb cable and ac adapter first buy buying it from a local conventional mobile shop.
most and almost all players which have memory above 2gb are hacked. so i suggest you to try this to recover your real memory and avoid any problems as far as music and video playback are concerned. http://www.mympxplayer.org/how-to-re...ck-vt2400.html |
Yeah.. yeah! Me too!!! Well mine goes like this... If I'm going to charge my MP4 via the wall charger I'll be spending at about 1 to 2 hours until the green light is off and the battery is full and then I would only use that player "for playing music" at about... uhmm, let's say 5 hours after that my player dies off to me again.
Is it normal for an MP4 (I-Pod clone) player to have this kind of battery life span? I also tried charging it using my laptop... still same thing happens... errr I guess it's a battery problem? >,< Note: by the way my player's memory is not hacked... |
Forensic , you can also link your paypal account to your bank account directly.
From the looks of it, it seems like the battery is starting to show signs of dying. For charging, usually the player gets slightly warm, rather than hot. i would suggest that you use your computer to charge the player and avoid using the AC adaptor. The current supplied by the AC adaptor is much higher than the computer USB. .::Lain::. , that's about the playtime your should get from a full charge. However, like i've mentioned, try to avoid using the AC adaptor and use the computer's USB as far as possible. It might take a little longer to charge, but it's better for the battery. |
Thanks a lot for the help. I shall try charging via the computer again.
How many hours should it take to fully charge the player. Other than the battery dying there were no other problems everything else worked ok. |
Forensic , on a computer USB, it should take somewhere between 2-3 hours. On an AC adaptor, around 1-2 hours.
|
Ok so I charged it for at least four hours via the computer and it didn't charge. The player shows a small amount of red on the battery indicator, but that is what it showed before charging.
So I am guessing that it probably is the battery. Where can I get a replacement battery ? I did see some on ebay but I dont think they are listed anymore. Does UXCELL have the same batteries? as my player is the same i-platimum 4g that EXCELL advertise on their site. However I didnt see the batteries for sale onsite. Should I consider buying a new usb cable as well and maybe charger? |
Forensic , what's your max playtime you get from that 4hour charge? You should be able to get a minimum of 3-4hours of playtime.
i found 2 ads from an ebay seller digistreet in Hong Kong http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Battery-Cell-...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Battery-Cell-...QQcmdZViewItem Both has it's dimensions listed, so i'll suggest that you open your player first and measure the max allowable space. This seller sells USB cables too, perhaps you can take a look. I would not recommend purchasing an AC adaptor charger, as those units from ebay are kinda dodgy. |
Re: Charging problem with MP4 player
Lattesurf,
When I originally purchased the player I got four hours playtime even though the seller advertises 5hrs. I bought it at the end of last year. I haven't use it that much. Now I can't listen to any music, when I try to access my music files, I get the egg timer and the player shuts down. I looked at some photos last night and the radio was playing, the battery level on the player was very small, the same before charging. Over time, the battery has lost its charge and it didn't take long for that to happen. Also when I was able to charge it I could only get half hour of music playing time and the player would get very warm when I was listening to the music. I will check what the battery is, last time I took the cover off the on off switch fell out, and it was really difficult to get it to hold in place while I put the back cover on. I wont worry about the charger, your right the one that came with the unit, is very loose and I thought it looked a bit dodgy. The headphones sound ok, but the lead isn't long enough so you cant put the unit in your pocket etc. Thanks for you help. |

.::Lain::. , technically speaking it is possible to be done with the wall adaptor.
However, there are 2 types of wall adaptor. 1. Those that are well designed, and have safety features to prevent current and voltage surges. 2. Those that are quickly designed, using the simple voltage divider. Well, those adaptors that comes with the player are usually of number 2, it works. But there is no safety features in it. |
Oh I see... Hahaha ^^ I was just really curious about the wall charger because one time when my brother charged his player, the wall charger got really really hot and from then on he uses computer's USB and got rid of his wall charger. I got scared about my player using the wall charger. I've read a lot of post from here that wall adaptors sometimes explode... Scary O_o
|
.::Lain::. , those wall adaptors probably used some cheap 5V voltage regulator. So something like a 240Vac rectified to Vdc, then step-down directly to 5V.
Bad circuit! Wastes alot of power (wastes your electricity bill)! The wasted power becomes heat, lots of heat! So this probably explains why your brother's wall adaptor got very hot. I might just strip my wall adaptor to see what they use inside. But that'll be when i get back to aust, all my stuff is there. Sorry for going off-topic.. :D |
ok, so I purchased a new battery from ebay for my mp3/mp4 I- premium nano clone.
So far the battery indicator shows that it is fully charged, however after I listen to some music, not even a full length of one song the battery indicator dops. Is this normal? I haven't tried listening yet to how long the new battery lasts. Also my computer with the old battery recognised two drives E and F. The E drive was formatted. With the new battery it recognises only the E drive and asks if I would like to format that drive. Is this normal? |
Forensic , when you removed the old battery, all the power supply was stopped for the player. So, your player might have reset itself. i'll suggest a format with MP3 Utilities Disk Tools.
Regarding the battery issue, charge the player fully, then let the player play songs until the battery runs out. See how long is the maximum playtime. |
I reformatted the player and as I expected It is now a 2gig or 1.90 player. So I have purchased a hacked player.
The new battery purchased through digistreet, is 250mAH, the original was 260mAH so I expect to loose some playing time, but am not sure how much exactly. I haven't let the battery run completey down yet, but I get a feeling so far that it isn't going to give me much playing time. |
Forensic , many of these replacement batteries aren't the best quality. The good quality lipo cells costs about perhaps $15-20 for about the same size as the player's. And they are mainly manufactured in the USA or Japan for RC hobby models.
But the battery you bought should last about at least 3-4hours of continuous music playback. Also avoiding charging the player via a USB hub. |
Ok so I charged the player until the battery indicator was full. I charged the player via direct usb cable to computer. I got around 1hr and 40 mins of continuous music.
|
Forensic , perhaps the new battery's capacity isin't very good either. Try a few more full charge and discharge cycles and see how long the battery lasts.
|
Ok, I will try charging again. I paid around $29 for this battery so I am hoping it is ok and I dont really want to have to purchase another one.
If i have to, are there any better quality batteries and how can I purchase them. |
Forensic , the batteries on ebay do not seem to be the best quality. So if you are really after a good quality battery, and you have some spare cash, try your local hobby store.
They should stock a wide variety of lipo cells, but prices aren't goin to be cheap either. |
